Dario Argento's The Card dealer (Il Cartaio)

Dario Argento's latest effort Il Cartaio has been set for a release- August 25, in Italy. No info as to whether or not the Medusa disc will offer English subs-

Don't know if subs are needed 'cause the movie was also dubbed in English in Italy i believe...

Anyway, the Japanese dvd wil be out on July 2nd, and the English dvd on August 2nd.

I'm personally looking forward to the Medusa release of this film.I'm hoping it includes the Italian DTS track option like what was featured on their release of NON HO SONNO, (Sleepless).

The film was only dubbed into english when it was being sold for foreign markets. It played in Italian first, like all his previous films and I personally think they play much better that way, so I would hope subs are included on the disc.

Well, this movie, in my opinion, is just as bad as all the other atrocities he committed in the past 30 years. Maybe even worse.

So far it looks like another Argento disaster. He has not made a good film since TENEBRAE (my opinion). Once Daria Nicolodi left him, his work suffered greatly. OPERA had great moments, but moments do not a great film make. And each film has grown more ridiculous and laughable, with PHANTOM OF THE OPERA being the worst film I have seen in the last ten years by a director with talent. It is as though Daria was Dario's muse and without her, he cannot function.

Here's one way to improve Argento's films. CAST REAL ACTORS WHO EITHER SPEAK ENGLISH AS A FIRST LANGUAGE, OR SHOOT IN FRICKEN ITALIAN! SLEEPLESS is unwatchable due to Italian actors speaking English, but being dubbed, badly, by English voice actors. My wife, who loves Argento's early work, walked out of the room she was so distracted by the dubbing.

I did as well, I think the Italian track is fine and vonsydow comes across just fine in it, it sounds very much like him. the english track is awful, I've only sampled it here and there.

I agree. The Italian track on the Medusa disc with English subs makes a huge difference. Most people I know who saw the film in English hated it, yet those who saw it in Italian enjoyed it.

The DTS track featured on the Czech disc also happens to be Full Bitrate! A nice bonus. Shame the Medusa disc will be Italian DD only and no eng subs!

Saw the first few minutes of the Dutch rental disc, and English really seems to be the spoken language, no dubbing here... Even the credits showed the English title, and the text on computer-screens was also in English. Or were these replaced in international versions? I think this Argento was shot in this language. Either way the voices of the actors i saw in the beginning... So the Medusa dvd seems to be dubbed (in Italian).
