Serenity R4 - Exclusive Features!

From DVDActive
Acclaimed cult writer Joss Whedon’s feature length follow up to his excellent Firefly series, Serenity, is due for a February 8th region four release. Unlike the R1, it will be housed inside a lovely tin that features the original theatrical artwork. The film will be presented in an anamorphic widescreen format with English audio in Dolby Digital 5.1. The disc will also contain supplementary materials exclusive to the region four disc including A Filmmakers Journey - Journey with Joss from Script to Screen, Joss Whedon Q&A Session - Filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, Extended Scenes, Take a Walk on Serenity - Cast and Crew take us on a special tour of the Serenity ship and The Green Clan - Expose on Cinematographer Jack Green and his team. Additional extras include deleted scenes, outtakes, Future History - The Story of Earth That Was, What's In A Firefly, Re-lighting The Firefly, Joss Whedon Introduction, Feature Commentary and Easter Egg - We'll Have A Fruity Oaty Good Time. The SRP is around AUD $32.83.
The good news is that Universal apparently are printing double-sided sleeves with the original artwork on both but dropping the ugly rating from one side! I hope this becomes a common practice.

The comments section beneath the article also mentions that certain retailers will have exclusives. JB-Hifi will be selling it in a slipcase with Whedon's signature (also without the rating logo), EzyDVD are selling it in a metal tin which also doesn't have the logo on it and Sanity are including a mouse pad (which, considering their usually much higher prices - you are paying for it anyway).

Hmm... tin vs. slipcover... I can't decide which one I like more, though I'm guessing that signature isn't a real signature. Anyone ever buy one of the older EzyDVD exclusive tins, like 40 Year Old Virgin or Pulp Fiction, and if so, what's the quality like? I'm especially interested in knowing if there's printing on the spine.

"The film will be presented in an anamorphic widescreen format with English audio in Dolby Digital 5.1."

Hmmmm... went to the site to jump all over it, BUT... no mention of "anamorphic" just "widescreen, enhanced for 16x9", which generally means No anamorphic.

Dang... No DTS either!

Um, "widescreen, enhanced for 16x9" means that the DVD is in fact anamorphic. Enhanced for 16x9 and anamorphic mean the same thing when DVD concerned.

R4 is great. The discs there are good and overall better value than R1, often much better. The best review site is http://www.michaeldvd.com.au , although registration is required.

i've never really ordered anything in a different currency before. can someone explain how this works? Will my credit card company automatically convert it for me? Also, i'm a little confused on their shipping charges for US customers...anyone have any experiences from here?

Wennma, You're credit card will automatically convert it to USD, so when u get your bill, you'll be charged based on the exchange rates for that particular day.

Use this site to help figure out prices in $USD$ CURRENCY CONVERTED

Shipping for most 1 or 2-disc amaray/digipacs is usually around $7-$10USD. Some companies will give a discount for more discs. Always read their shipping disclosure/rates.

Check DeVoteD . I bought from them before, and a single Amray shipped air for $2.80 AU. Their price for serenity is $32.50 AU. It'll actually be less, because they back out their tax on foreign orders. No details on the tin, features, etc. at this point, but you can ask. My order (Enchanted April) got to me in Florida in seven days!

pmreed, DeVoteD are most likely just selling the amaray version. EzyDVD has the tin as an exclusive.

Just a note that Empire movie magazine in Australia gave away a free dvd full of Serenity material at the time of its cinema release there. I have one but havent looked at it, and am unfortunately in a different country at the moment.

You guys might want to investigate this also.

The shipping is AU$9.5~$6.99, not bad at all.
The total (international price + shipping) is AU$37.4 ~ $28.99

The one without tin is only slightly cheaper.

what's the validity of ezydvd saying they have exclusives tins when i found out they say the same "exclusive" tin for "King Kong"? only 5,000? 5,000 for them, but many thousands to us in the US. i mean what is up with that and this exclusive tag really doesn't mean anything and other regions including ours could very well get this soon. i may cancel my order now.

That tin is diff. from the Best Buy one.

The BB one give u two other movies and an add'l postcards.

That one seems limited and #'d of 5000.

Compare the trade-off. What is worth more to you???

There is also a general retail release Collector's Edition tin that contains just Kong, the bonus features, and postcards. It looks pretty much the same as the EzyDVD version.

Scott1598, EzyDVD is perfectly within their rights to call it an exclusive because indeed it is an EzyDVD exclusive in Australia. Whether the same thing is released in the US is irrelevant.

BB one? the tin was released without the other two. duh!
i still think it is false advertising. and if "Serenity" will indeed be released here as a tin with the same extra features, then i would rather have that.

Hey,

I can check out some of there other tins if ppl would like more details, i work about 5 mins walk from one of their stores. They are indeed exclusive to Ezydvd cause i THINK (don't quote me) they are an after market add-on, as you just get the standard case inside the tin.

Scott1598: The Aus dvd has exclusive content which is listed on both Ezydvd website and JBHifi website, so i don't think US will get same tin/dvds, also listed at start of thread.

The quality of newer Aus dvds is pretty good, some older ones it is just like they have transferred from a VHS tape though.

The Serenity "tin" looks like a SteelBook case. You can't fit a keepcase inside it.

I disagree. Even if this tin is 100% identical to the U.S. one (which I doubt), if they are the only retailer releasing this in Australia, then it is an exclusive. I don't think that you have to take into account a release in a different country, with an incompatible region code.
