Walkabout - Nicolas Roeg - good editions ?
I saw on dvdbeaver that there's a german edition out of this film that is 16:9 and progressive PAL. Is there any other versions out with 16:9 enhancement and progressive video ?
I ask because the german disc is a bit expensive to import and also because it seems to be off in colour compared to the other versions like the criterion.

I just saw this movie a couple of weeks ago. Never knew about it, and I really enjoyed it. Jenny Aguter...mmmmm. I bought the Criterion from DVDPlanet with the $10 off Google Checkout option. I'd like an affordable anamorphic version as well.

The German disc is the only 16/9 version on the market.
Pro-B
ps
Supposedly there is a Greek disc of this film as well but I have not been able to confirm its status.

This film is crying out for a CRITERION restoration. The German one is only a tiny bit better, but may suffer from a non progressive transfer*-DVDBeaver did A-Bs of them and the frames they chose where blurred-though some frames looked tad better, they are othing to write home about.
Keep or get the Criterion
* or maybe a cheap NTSC> PAL conversion

Criterion's DVD (a terrible port of their even worse laserdisc IIRC) is the worst transfer of the film I've seen. Every other release I've have has similar problems. I settled on my BBC MPEG which isnt perfect but it's the best out there.
The film obviously needs a lot of money spent on it to get a decent DVD.

kind of sad when a film with your countries remarkable beauty has such a poor 4:3 (?) transfer.
John Barry's score is remarkable
