I've been an Amazon.com customer since last summer. I live in Finland and I have always received my Amazon.com orders (DVDs) in about two weeks. Until now, that is. My recent orders seem to take forever to arrive (3+ weeks) and in February, two of my orders didn't arrive at all and had to be re-shipped.

I'd like to hear from anybody who lives in Europe and has ordered from Amazon.com in the last two months (using standard air mail). How soon did you receive your orders?

I ordered 5 or 6 times the last 3 months and received them mostly in 2-3 weeks. 1 Shipment didn't arrive at all and had to be reshipped. This is the first time it's happened to me though.

I only noticed that recent orders take something more(from 2 to 3 weeks) to arrive. Not a big problem for me!

I'm really having bad luck with Amazon, it seems. My copy of "Do The Right Thing" CC was shipped February 21st. I still haven't got it! Has anyone else from Europe ordered (and received?) this film?

The prob is that the switch carriers. The used to ship through Amsterdam but it's all through Zurich now. For whatever reason, customs is also a lot worse with the new carrier.

That`s why i only use DHL Intl. for all my Amazon orders. I usually make one order a month and it always arrives in 2 or 3 Days. I hate all the troubles with lost shipments and
it is easier with DHL Intl.

DHL ..is great for time....but look at the taxes...

For me same thing...i live in France..and my shipments fromamazon take at least three weeks...and more often one month....and at the beginning it was two weeks...

So i tried HMV.com ... and the first shipment took 5 DAYS !!!!!!!!!! not even a week...but the second one took almost 2 weeks...

I will see for the third one...

And that's true that amazon has high prices..high shipping rates...but which other store offerss so much GC for european people..in fact was offering because now thre is not a lot of things to do or click for to get those GC's...

But 1 month is quite long !!!

Do Swiss customs do anything else than slow down the delivery? I mean, can they actually seize packages? (Sounds very far-fetched, I know.)

Dunno about Swiss customs, I am sure below could apply to any customs

Customs have to inspect invoices before deciding what to do with it. Slap duties/taxes or let it go scot free. If they decide to slap fees, they have to prepare paperwork. It takes time, In my case delay by 1-2 days. And those backlogs.... We know that government doesn't run like business

DHL international is expensive. They charges you everything..

In my experience in swiss custom if you order 3 or more dvd's it will charge you a tax.

I don't think it's based on number of DVD's but more the amount printed on the box. For example, in The Netherlands everything above $30 is taxable.

The thing I'm really confused about is that when Amazon used to ship thru The Netherlands not only delivery times for the whole European continent where shorter but also everyone had a lot less trouble with customs. The thing I can imagine is that Swiss isn't part of the EU so it's a US-Swiss-EU shipment which triggers customs?

Maybe it's time to start a petition 'Give us back our old European Distribution Center' (not that Amazon will give a crap)?

In fact, it's even worse: officially entertainment packages (DVD, video, CD) valued above NLG 48 are subject to taxes. I my opinion this limit is often exceeded, maybe because of the large number of small packages.

Whoa! I just received a copy of Gladiator from Amazon which was shipped on January 29! I can't believe it. Seven f**king weeks!!! Still, I'm not really complaining because they re-shipped Gladiator and another DVD on March 3, which probably means I'll receive two copies of both films .

Hmm I suppose you'll be telling Amazon this and returning the copies that were sent to you unjustly?

Sure it's unethical, but no way. If they don't care about their European customers enought to have a decent delivery rate, it's their problem. If a film doesn't arrive in 26 days, it can be reshipped. My order of "Gladiator" took 50 days to arrive and I haven't even received another order placed at exactly the same time! So I won't be returning the re-shipped package of two films (which I haven't received yet either); it would cost me about $15 to ship it back and I'm not willing to pay that amount for Amazon's mistake. But from now on, I won't be asking for them to re-ship an order until about 5-6 weeks have passed.

Let me just point out in Tyler_Durden's defence. Amazon are losing little, if any, money when re-sending packages. They are insured for this kind of occurance, so in order to get the package resent you have to wait the set period as set by the insurance company. All Amazon pay for is the premiums, and can then claim whatever value.

It's a strange world, indeed. I just received two films I ordered from Amazon two months ago; today, I also received another film which was shipped two weeks ago. Amazon.com works in mysterious ways .

Like some of you, I've noticed a 2-3 week added delay in the last couple of months. The latest order which included Manhunter, and Nightmare before Christmas SE shipped January 29 and arrived just 10 days ago (about 6 weeks).

BTW, who should I e-mail when an order fails to appear?

I'm in Estonia, and shipments from Amazon have always taken 3+ weeks, and some have gotten lost. This was a feature of DHL Worldmail, as DHL Worldmail shipments from other stores have taken equally long, and USPS Airmail shipments from elsewhere have always arrived in 7 days.

Haven't ordered directly to Estonia for a ~2 months now, but I don't suppose the situation has changed... been this way for ~2 years.

Just received "The Rock": CC. It took 13 days. Amazon continues to amaze me; I still haven't received "Do The Right Thing": CC and that was sent about 5 weeks ago.

In December I noticed Amazon was getting somewhat slower with their shipments, about 3-4 weeks. But recent shipments have been showing up in 2-3 weeks again, so everything seems normal to me. I live in The Netherlands by the way.
