New Poll: Invitation from Paramount

(Moderator Note: Please, do not make title request in this thread!
The following titles are slated for DVD, this thread is a poll on which ones deserve special features, not to see what you want on DVD from Parmount. Please post here to make Parmount DVD requests. Thanks -Blade
)

Last year I conducted a poll on hometheaterforum and many of the movies that rated well on that poll are now out on DVD or are on the schedule for later this year or next year. Most of the time there isn't (or hasn't been) money, staffing or time to get bonus features onto them. But they are coming... even Four Flies on Grey Velvet, if it's feeling lucky.

This time around I thought I'd invite your opinions on a select batch of 11 titles, most of which are on the schedule for next year, but we have to pick the ones that get special features. Can you weigh in here?

Remember, bonus features cost money so these won't be double-disc editions, but we could try and avoid barebones. Here they are... have at it with suggestions and comments.

Murder on the Orient Express
Bugsy Malone
Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter and the Hammers
This Property is Condemned
Day of the Locust
The Geisha Boy, The Ladies Man, etc.
Wings
If
Foul Play
Darling Lili
Looking for Mr. Goodbar

Bugsy Malone-Please!

Im surprised a remake hasnt been done yet. This is a great film.

Murder on the Orient Express should definately have special features. A great film with a great cast and helmed by a great director.

Speaking on behalf of many members I can tell you right now many newbies have asked for Foul Play and Looking for Mr Goodbar.

Maliboo 05-09-02 03:39 PM

I'd say the Hammer films have the largest group of rabid fans who would be most appreciative of bonus features. I know I would!

slop101 05-09-02 03:39 PM

If, as in Lindsay Anderson's If?

That, I feel, is one of the greatest films ever made. I would very much appreciate any sort of bonus materials you could get on it.

What would be the ETA on it?

BTW, thanks, Martin.

EDIT:
While I'm at it, I may as well inquire about Hitchcock's To Catch A Thief. Well?

Geofferson 05-09-02 03:42 PM

Murder on the Orient Express for sure - that was a great whodunit.

It would also be nice to see non bare-bones releases of If, Captain Kronos and This Property Condemned.

Thanks.

I love Foul Play, but I've seen it so many times that a commentary or text production notes during the film would really increase my desire to purchase it on DVD.

I also think If is a VASTLY underrated and unknown little gem. It's been on my top 5 most wanted dvds since I first got into dvd. I don't know how many extras currently exist for this film but I would certainly love to hear malcolm mcdowell's thoughts on this early film.

Murder on the orient express and the hammers would also be good for extra features

Definitely If...., if it is indeed the Lindsay Anderson film from 1968.

People, check out the IMDb page for the film. This is one of the most gripping thrillers ever, an absolute masterpiece.

BTW, I really appreciate you being so open about Paramount's plans, Mr. Blythe. Thank you.

DEFINITELY Captain Kronos.

I think Looking for Mr. Goodbar, If, Wings, and Day of the Locust and would be great discs to have extras on, as well!

milo bloom 05-09-02 05:00 PM

Yes.

( I don't know any of these films, sadly, but I just wanted to applaud the effort.)

Another Vote For Murder on the Orient Express...Here is a movie that begs for special features. Agatha Christie did not want the movie made before this time because censorship rules would have forced a change to the ending of the film. But by 1974 it could be made and the ending filmed just as it should have been. So a behind the scenes look at how it was finally able to be made would be great.

Moreover, the incredible cast in the film, from Albert Finney, to Vanessa Redgrave, John Gielgud, Sean Connery, Michael York, Wendy Hiller, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Anthony Perkins...and the evil Richard Widmark make this film a true enjoyment to watch. An audio commentary showing how all the actors were able to be brought together to create the film would certainly enhance the viewing of the movie.

With the right features, this could be a big seller I would think.

Wings!!! Please. I beg you, WINGS!!!
I've been waiting forever for this one.
Thanks :)

One more vote for a good Murder on the Orient Express release!

Damfino 05-09-02 05:15 PM

I vote for "Wings" (1927) and "Murder on the Orient Express".

I'm not familiar with "If", but it sounds good.

waskydiver 05-09-02 05:28 PM

Top Three in order:

Wings
Foul Play
Murder on the Orient Express

Jadzia 05-09-02 05:30 PM

I'd say Foul Play, especially with a Chase/Hawn commentary!

I know they are not on the list, but how about Bogdanovich films- Targets and Daisy Miller, and of course Paper Moon? I'd love to see these, especially with a Bogdanovich commentary. All his films recently got a write-up in Entertainment Weekly and could use a DVD release! Thanks, Mr. Blythe!

LBPound 05-09-02 05:33 PM

I'm not too big a fan of any of the titles in question, although "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Foul Play" are my favorites from the list, and I'd like for those to have some extras.

But I especially wanted to say that it is EXTREMELY cool for you to get insight from DVD Talkers, Mr. Blythe. I really applaud this move by Paramount, and I only wish more studios had open ears to customer suggestions.
