I just got back from seeing this at the Nuart in West L.A. and it was fantastic. The dub was every bit as great as the one for the series. The presentation was awesome and it was a real treat to finally see this on the big screen.

BTW, if anyone is wondering what song it is that closes the film during the credits - I don't know the title, but it's by Carleen Anderson w/ Paul Weller (from The Jam) on guitar. She's got two solo albums she recorded with Paul Weller that simply rock - it's just great soul music that you rarely hear anymore. But you can only get it on import - check amazon.co.uk.

I had no idea it was going to open here on opening day. Well, I think it's too late to get to the Varsity for the 10:00 showing (as it might be sold out), we'll definitely go tomorrow.
Any idea if they're showing a subbed version? When they had "Spirited Away" showing last year, it was subbed, while the other theaters on the island were dubbed.

I made the MAJOR mistake during "Spirited Away" of seeing the film at Ward Theatre, which was the dubbed version. I would have much preferred the subbed version that was at Varsity, but stupid me thought the whole island had the same version!
I'm under the impression this film only has the dubbed version playing in the U.S. In any case, I thought it was good voice acting. I haven't yet seen the series on DVD (though it's in my to-watch pile!), but I will definitely check out the Japanese track there for comparison.

I'm happy to say that the movie actually did come to a city near me, two weeks ago. It was the subbed version and a damn good movie to boot. I'll be more than happy to pick up the DVD this comin' Tuesday.

Also, since I am still in the middle of the series (just about to start session 5) should I go on since I know the ending of the show (imdb crazy credits), or should I watch the movie and then disc 6?

It's always refreshing to sit down and watch a good slice of exciting anime. It really reminds me how much American action films have gone downhill. Every shot has it's own jazzy composition. It's exciting - it's fun - it moves to the beat of the music.
