i doubt it, they already have 3 different releasesbut then again never say never.

That's my point. I think they've milked the first film for all it's worth but I somehow have afunny feeling they might release yet another version as a tie-in for the sequel.

Didn't care for the first one so don't really care all that much for a second one. Didn't like the plot holes, the hulk at the end, the super duper vampire, hairless werewolves, trying to hard to be the next matrix, the acting, and story was kind of boring.

Its good for a rental. They could do better with the next movie but I doubt it.

So Derek Jakobi is no longer Marcus I guess?

Who is Tony Curran? Is he a decent actor?

It's sad news but Tony Curran IS a good actor, if not in the same caliber as Derek Jakobi. He was Rodney Skinner in The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, was Weath in The 13th Warrior, will be in the upcoming Beowulf with Gerard Butler, had a bit part in Gladiator (had his own sword stuck in him by a bound RusselL Crowe), and recently had a supporting role in Flight Of The Phoenix.

Perhaps Tony Curran is a young Marcus and Derek Jakobi portrays him when older. Anyone know how quickly Vampires age in the Underworld universe?

I don't think they do age.

Didn't know that was Curran in LXG; he was one of the few good points about that movie.

Agreed 100%. The movie was awesome but Kraven was so terrible that it was almost painful at times. Did anyone teach this guy how to deliver lines? I've seen middle school plays with better actors.

Will any of the vampires need CPR in this one?

I could have sworn the old Underworld thread was filled with nothing but hate. I thought the first one was okay, they could have done a much better job all around, but it was entertaining - the CPR and the new mouth on the hybrids are the 2 things that bothered me the most. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes from the 1st one and make a really good vampire film.

Vampire Purists get all bent outa shape on this. I just take it to mean that Vampires in this particular Universe(Underworld) don't have Supernatural powers like Vampires in other movies. Shit, in the old Vampire movies water alone would've killed a Vampire. Even the Werewolves in Wolf form are stronger than the Vampires. The exception being the Vampire Elder Viktor. Even the Elder Amelia, who should've been stronger than the Werewolves, was killed fairly easily. But it's no big deal. Blade did the same thing with its Vampires in terms of "powering them down".

I remember someone once posted in this forum after reading the novelization and mentioned that, although elders were stronger than your typical vampires, only Viktor was the real powerhouse of that particular coven, Amelia was there as the smartest and Marcus was there ONLY because he was a decendant of Corvinus.

Also, Selene narrates early on that the werewolves bred themselves to be stronger after the defeat of Lucian.

I totally forgot about that scene (man, I saw the movie in the theater and have watched it several times on cable...duh).

I guess it didn't bother me that much. This movie seemed to establish it's own breed of vampires (like all the other vamp movies). Did any purist get bent out of shape about Selena being able to see her own reflection?

Although, now that Michael is a hybrid and maybe Marcus will be too, that could lead to some cool fight scenes.
i think handcombat would've been mindless and repetitive. but more interestingly, the preponderance of weaponry is exactly what you would expect out of a centuries old feud. at some point, some braniac would have to realize, "hey, we've been fighting this way for centuries. and we've gotten nowhere fast. maybe we should try to change our tactics."

they're innovating their method of combat, exactly as humans have done for tens of hundreds of years. it's been the way of humans for years, to innovate to try to get ahead.

while it's not flashy matrix-fighting (which i'm glad it wasn't, considering it had all the looks in the trailer of being a matrix-ified vampire movie)

this fantasy movie, while not entirely original, has its good moments which, oddly enough, are entirely reasonable.

Yeah I read both Underworld books. The monetization "Underworld, and the prequel "Underworld: Blood Enemy". Generally AGE is what gives both Vampires and Werewolves their strength. The older they are, the stronger they are. I guess Viktor was probably the oldest of both species. This is also why Lucian could not only change at will but push silver bullets out of his wounds. I don't remember the part about Werewolves breeding themselves to be stronger but since they are animals it would make sense the strongest would get to breed the new wolves.

If I remember right according to UW: Blood Enemy, Viktor wasn't even "pureblood". He was turned many many centuries ago. But he was a strong defender of "Vampiric purity". Lucian, however, was pure. "Pure" meaning born of 2 of immortal parents be they Vampire or Werewolf and not changed over. Lucian's parents were captured by Viktor before Lucian was born. That's why he was born a slave. Viktor was the one who put Werewolves into servitude. Apparently, wild packs were killing humans and creating a huge problem for "Immortals". Viktor realized that people already feared immortals but these attacks caused humans to hate them and Viktor realized that if he didn't do something about it sooner or later humans would start hunting immortals down. So he rounded up wild packs and created "Death Dealers" as the soldiers responsible for this task.

Lucian was a wolf trustee who helped Vampires hunt rouge wolf packs to kill them or make them slaves.

Yeah, that's good stuff, Giantrobo. BTW, where did you get the books? And how much do they retail for?

I hope info like Lucian and Viktor's backgrounds are presented in the opening 20 minutes of this sequel.

Underworld at Amazon
Underworld: Blood Enemy

I just saw both books in paper back at BORDERS earlier today. They probably sell for around 6 or 7 bucks. Underworld: Blood Enemy goes back and forth between ancient times and a few months before the events in the movie Underworld. The funny thing is it never gets into Selene's origin. It's mostly about Lucian, Sonja(Viktor's daughter), and the events leading to war. Both are written by the same guy so I'm hoping another book is on the way.
