No doubt.

I saw TPM twice in the movie theater:  the second time because my BIL was rehabilitating his knee after surgery and he wanted to get out of his house so I accompanied him to the movie theater. The film seemed to drag on forever before getting to the lightsaber duel at the end -- the only part I was interested in seeing again. Even in 3D I have zero interest in going to the movie theater for a third time.

Re: Phantom Menace to be released in 3D Next Spring

Interesting thing happened last night. When I came home from work my 4 year old was watching TV and the commercial for Phantom Menace came on. I've only shown her the original Star Wars. But I knew she would recognize this as also being Star Wars. I said, "What's this?" She said, "Oooo it's Star Wars."

Then came the clip where Jar-Jar gets his head electrocuted by the pod racer. She laughed hysterically and said "I saw the funny eyed guy. That was funny."

A LEGO® feature area

It's sad, I know... but every parent eventually learns that you can only shield your children from the evils of the world for so long before they go out and find it for themselves. There's only so much you can do, but your job as a parent is to set tough boundaries and let your children know that there are consequences to their actions.

Re: Phantom Menace to be released in 3D Next Spring

I agree, no way in hell that I'm going to see this. But I can't deny that 1999 was a fun summer, in part because of the huge event that was watching this movie. Seeing my first new SW movie in theaters, arguing with friends over Natalie Portman, enjoying the soundtrack. Hmm...that might be it actually. But I did enjoy it way more then than now. My dad and I even said some praise for it that I would be embarrassed to repeat even now.

I also listened to Smash Mouth's All Star a lot that summer...yeah okay maybe it was a weird time.

Since this is also being released on some 2D screens, I'd be curious to see how ticket sales go just for those.

In Vegas, the few theaters that are showing the film in 2D, only have it for one showing per day.

I'm going to place bets that Lucas is releasing this digital only.

Why does George insist on having that weird Harry Knowles neck beard?

Re: Phantom Menace to be released in 3D Next Spring

Interestingly, a lot of women want to see this.

Here are some choice tweets:
I'm still goin to see the phantom menace in 3d next week even thou it sux
I <3 STAR WARS EP 1 PHANTOM MENACE RIP Qui-Gon Jinn Killl that bastard Obi Wan
The phantom menace a cynical 3d cash in? Hell, I'll be there Sunday! Any excuse to watch anything star wars is fine with me.
Dammit, I hate Phantom Menace, but I'm so gay for Star Wars, I'm probably gonna see it at least thrice.
I hated The Phantom Menace when I was younger then I took Government & Economics and fully appreciate the political content of Episode I now
The greatest V Day gift would be to see Star Wars: Phantom Menace in 3D.
Phantom Menace opening in a few hours. Seeing it again in 3d on saturday, Episode 1 or not, should lift my spirits.

I will always contend that the lead up to the prequels was better then the movies themselves. George should have just released the title name, the images, let the rumors surface on the internert, and finally the trailer, and then never release the movie!

We could all be saying 13 years later, "Damn, that Episode I and those prequels would have been some badass movies if they were ever released!"

Kinda like what was done with Shadows of the Empire.

It's a regular beard...his jawline has just succumbed to neck fat.

See, this is the difference between the OT fans and PT fans. The OT fans didn't take the movies that seriously, we just took our love of the movies too seriously. The OT are just great movies that are fun to watch, had cool characters, and cool story, but I never looked THAT deeply into them. The PT fans come up with statements like the one above like these movies are on par with The Godfather or Lawrence of Arabia. Because this idiot took some Government class at College, now see some deep symbolism of Padme voting no confidence in the Senate?

They are B movies when it is all said and done, but the OT movies are just great B movies and don't pretend to be anything more. The PT movies are B movies, but for some reason they try to be as dramatic as Schindlers List or Platoon, and by doing that they end up failing on all levels. IMO

Re: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace...in 3-D for 2012

Anyone going to see this tomorrow? Or anyone lining up to see the midnight showings tonight? I'm tempted to swing by the theater tonight and see if there's anyone waiting for the midnight showings.

Re: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace...in 3-D for 2012

I might be tempted if I knew Lucas had added new footage since the blu-ray release. I like 3D and all, but I don't think I'm gonna pay to see a movie I already own. Then again, I'm curious as to how good the 3D is....

Re: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace...in 3-D for 2012

I'm psyched for the 12:01 showing tonight! I sure hope the prequel bashers and Lucas haters stay true to their word. I really don't want to deal with a huge crowd tonight.
