Somewhat. Read the short story (a great read, by the way) to see how much of the Memento screenplay was original, and how much was adaptation. The former greatly outweighs the latter.

For Memento, the screenplay was based on his brother's idea for a story. Chris wrote the screenplay the same time his brother was writing the story.

That's IT! Steve Martin as Number Six!

Maybe the movie will have a REAL ending, unlike the show

Then it won't be a very good movie. THE PRISONER became a classic because of it's ambiguous and head-scratching ending.

Actually, it became a classic because of all the episodes leading up to the ending and thier excelence....the finale is heralded by people who want to seem cool by lauding nonsence

I seriously doubt people would still be talking about THE PRISONER today if McGoohan had wrapped everything up in a neat little bow. For goodness sakes, the man had to go into hiding for several months after that final epsiode because people were so pissed at him! It's a BRILLIANT ending and the series wouldn't have it's longevity in the public eye without it.

I love the Prisoner...but the last episode was basically just thrown together at the last minute because the hammer came down and the series was cancelled.

and derided by people that need everything explained to them and all wrapped up with a little bow on it.

As long as they keep the lead a non-American, I'll be happy. I don't want to see Keanu Reeves.

I've always thought Sam Neill would make a good No. 6...may be slightly too old for the part now.
Since #6 was supposed to be some kind of retired secret agent (often thought of as McGoohan's character from Danger Man/Secret Agent Man), it would be slightly amusing to have Pierce Brosnan portray #6 in a remake of The Prisoner...at least at this point in time.

Agreed. That would/could be a lot of fun!

Re: Christopher Nolan to direct The Prisoner

18 year bump....

This could possibly be Nolan's next film... Interesting he still wants to tackle it.

Now all eyes are on what Nolan — who wrote, directed and produced “Oppenheimer” — will do next. Some say it will be a remake of the mystery-thriller “The Prisoner,” based on the 1960s TV series created by and starring Patrick McGoohan, which Nolan was attached to in 2009. But the sci-fi project vanished from Nolan’s dance card that same year, when AMC released its own “The Prisoners,” a six-part miniseries led by Jim Caviezel as the ill-fated agent Number Six alongside Ian McKellen and Ruth Wilson. Others say he will begin writing a new screenplay now that the awards season is behind him.

Re: Christopher Nolan to direct The Prisoner

If Nolan directs a remake at least we will get an ending that everyone will understand. I am sure Gary Oldman or Michael Caine will have a twenty minute scene of exposition wrapping everything up.

I am surprised you are able to post after 2 days of drunken celebration over Nolan's win.

Re: Christopher Nolan to direct The Prisoner

I would gladly watch Nolan's take on this property. So I guess his long rumoured Bond film is still not happening?
