I'll wait to heap my praise on this movie until I find out they're going to finish it. I don't want to be disappointed when they decide it didn't make enough money to justify filming the other half. Nothing sucks worse than an unfinished movie.
I WANT it to succeed, I hope it does, I really want to see it, but at the same time I want to know they're going to finish it.

I watched Dune yesterday and it's fantastic. It's like watching Lord of the Rings for the first time. The last movie I watched in a theater was Tenet and Dune is definitely the one to welcome back audiences to the big screen. It's a feast for eyes and ears.

This is getting a lot of positive notice from people who have not read the book, which is a good thing. What's interesting is that while they agree the movie is epic, entertaining, and a great cinematic experience, they claim the ending (for part 1) is pretty predictable and the story doesn't leave you thinking like Blade Runner 2049 as it is pretty simple. While that might be a weakness to them, to me this seems like Villeneuve pretty much pulled off what he needed to do to in adapting it for a larger audience.

Already at 100 Million, without US, UK or China.
I think we have a good chance at part 2, fingers crossed we can get Messiah done as part 3.

I did that for Godzilla vs Kong in April after I was fully vaccinated, and will do it for Dune which interestingly enough opens two weeks after I get my Pfizer booster. I will watch Matrix Revolutions on tv first and if it impresses me, may catch it over holiday vacation.

While these new trailers are doing a good job of making it look interesting to general audiences, they are doing a bit of misleading by making it look like Momoa is the second lead to Chalamet. Spoiler...he isn't. That said, from some videos I've seen it looks like they are going to take some of Gurney Halleck's stuff and giving it to Duncan, which makes me wonder

I think Duncan Idaho had about thirty seconds of screen time in Lynch's Dune, which amounted to Paul saying "Hey, look! Duncan Idaho is here!"

Why aren't we all watching Dune right now?
I think I'm overhyping myself.

That would be a great name for a character who is president of a potato company that gets pushed out by his second in command.

Duncan Idaho.
Johnny Utah.
Hannah Montana.
Reno Nevada.
Nathan Arizona.
Robert California.
And these states all border each other. Coincidence or conspiracy?

It's like an Expendables-style lineup/mashup banding together for a Zombieland movie alongside Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little ROck.

89% on RT after 112 reviews so far.
Robert Klion's review in New Republic is written from the perspective of a fan of the book:
The New Dune Is the Adaptation Frank Herbert’s Novel Deserves
He confirms what I thought was pretty obvious from the trailers to date (which contain almost no word-for-word dialogue from the book):
This is also interesting considering how many voiceovers were in the Lynch adaptation:

The New Dune Is the Adaptation Frank Herbert’s Novel Deserves
He confirms what I thought was pretty obvious from the trailers to date (which contain almost no word-for-word dialogue from the book):
Villeneuve’s fealty to the core ideas of the book and to the unique textures of Herbert’s universe exceeds Lynch’s, but at the same time he takes many more liberties with Herbert’s infamously ponderous dialogue: Here, actors like Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Josh Brolin (who respectively play Duke Leto Atreides, Paul’s father, and the warriors Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck, who serve as surrogate uncles to Paul) are given quippy, Hollywood-friendly lines. The trailers make this last feature seem like it might get annoying, but in the actual film, it serves to keep the audience grounded in an otherworldly universe.
Herbert’s protagonists, many of whom possess heightened mental abilities, frequently think to themselves
using italicized sentences like this, a device Lynch replicates with constant, dreary voiceovers. Villeneuve, rather than boring us with internal monologues, has his actors convey their inner thoughts through body language. At the same time, unlike Lynch, he depicts the various otherworldly forms of communication often referenced in the book, in particular forms of sign language (always subtitled) used to convey secret messages, or a wonderful scene in which a “cone of silence” is projected above several characters to drown out their voices to anyone standing outside, including the audience.

Not too surprising... Since there are Thursday night screenings in the theatres, this will premiere on HBO Max on 10/21 at 6 pm ET. https://www.hbomax.com/dune
