On Stone:
Oliver Stone is about the last director out there who should be directing any "fair, true" film on the life of George W. Bush. This is going to be the narrative film version of a Michael Moore documentary. It would be like Sean Hannity producing a film on the life and times of the Clintons or Barack Obama.
Mr Stone - who has made films about President John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon declined to give his personal opinion of George W. Bush. "I can't give you that, because the filmmaker has to hide in the work," Mr Stone said.
"Here, I'm the referee, and I want a fair, true portrait of the man. How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world? It's like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I'll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from.
"It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, preemptive attack on Iraq.
"It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors."

Pretty decent teaser I thought... but I still found myself laughing at it, rather than thinking it looked good. I'm guessing the theater reactions will be the same.

I haven't thought much of Stone's movies in a while, but hell, I'm curious enough to see this. It sure plays like a comedy, though. Or was that the reality?

Based on the trailer it looks like it could be really good, but it would have been better to have allowed a few years to pass before trying this. Any idea what the source material was?

The trailer doesn't make the movie look very good.
Will people (even liberals, of which I consider myself one) even want to see this? I mean, we've all lived with this guy for 8 years...what's the incentive to go out and PAY to see a movie about him? Are we really going to learn anything new?![Smilie](/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Unless the reviews are great, this is probably going to be a pass for me....

Looks intriguing to me. I'm not a fan of GWB by any means, but I think this film looks like it'll shed a lot of light on his time leading up to the White House, which I wasn't totally expecting (though I should have). I'm not sure if I'd catch this in theaters, but I'd definitely like to see it.

Clever, that Stone is.

Anyone else feel like they were watching a Conan O'Brien "NBC Is making a movie... (condoleeza rice will be played by snoop dogg)" sketch?

Whether or not the movie makes money, the media isn't going to let this movie matter. It's already being mocked. Fahrenheit 9/11 slipped in and made money before everyone 'went to work' on it. People saw it and believed it all to be true. And, if you ask an 'average' person who saw it, they will still think it's a 'true' documentry. But that won't happen with W. There's already to be too much conversation about it. Good or bad - sucessful or not - all of the 'right' stations aren't going to be happy. O'Reilly already made the decision that it's a bad movie.
That all being said, the movie doesn't look like it's too biased against W. All we got is that he partied as a kid and fought with his dad a little. I didn't get a firm 'I hate George W Bush' message from the trailer. I'd call what I saw a 'polite mocking'.
From the trailer, I expect to see a 'trial and tribulations' type story. Maybe the 'mocking' and 'satire' will naturally present itself when the story is presented. I can't hate Stone for telling a true story. As of right now, we don't know much about the movie. I'll wait for post-release discussion before we start talking about inaccuracies.

I think they were lucky to get everyone involved. I wonder if there were any actors that turned down role(s). I'd love to see the list.
