Things You Just Noticed...

Things I just noticed about movies I've seen countless times:

Heat
The bank robbery actually takes place not on ground level but apparently about 10-12 stories up from the look of it. Take a look out of the windows during the robbery. I always assumed they walk right out of the bank to ground level, but they never really show this since they cut to the police station first, so it could possibly be that the bank was on the 10th floor or something.

Goonies
I was just watching this on HDNet Movies tonight, and the rock that Mikey lines the coin up to is apparently Haystack Rock in Oregon. This isn't so interesting, except that you can see the same rock behind him in some shots when they are up on the cliff about to walk to the restaurant.

What things, mistakes or otherwise, have you noticed in movies that you've seen innumerous times?

After watching The Rock on Blu-Ray the other night, I just noticed that when
Spoiler:
Nic Cage is blasted into the ocean following the missle strike, you can clearly see the wires supporting him as he's flying through the air.

I've seen the movie countless times, yet there they are, clear as day.

Terminator 2. Watched it begining to end a good 20 times. Watched it 'in the background' another 30 times.

A few weeks ago, I noticed... During the SWAT Van/Helicopter chase, the T-1000 reloads. And when he does so, a third arm comes out to help.

Blade Runner: In the scene where Leon is walking in to be tested. I never noticed the whole shot shows the whole floor outside of the office he was to be tested in, and you can see Leon walking down towards the room. I never saw that until I saw it on DVD many years ago.

In Commando, Schwarzenneger damages the hell out of a Porsche and flips it on it's side. After he kills the owner of the Porsche, he flips it back onto it's wheels and drives it away --- sans damage anywhere.

It took a 3rd watching of Airplane! to finally notice that every time you see a shot of the jetliner.... the sound effect is of a prop plane. Maybe I was laughing too much to notice before.

I never noticed that John Carradine had a part in Bride of Frankenstein.

I think that's a well-known, possibly publicized goof. My dad told me about it when I was little. During the end shootout, there in a part when some guys are running after Ahnuld. He layed down some mines or remote explosives. Two guys are launched into the air, via rather obvious spring (or pneumatic) platforms.

I've watched Die Hard 3 soooo many times. I never caught the stuttering thing before someone mentioned it in another DVDTalk thread. I also never got the "I think we go straight to the withdrawl" line. Irons' accent is so thick that I never understood what he said. When I was watching the DVD a few years ago, I just turned on the subtitles to see what he actually says.

When I was little, I never, ever questioned the effects in Escape From New York. Probably watched it 3-4 times. I was watching it a couple years ago, and could see that miniatures were obviously used for a bunch of shots during the opening scenes.

In Robocop... When Murphy gets his hand blown off. I saw the theatrical version a few times when I was younger. That hand scene always shocked and scrared the shit out of me. It always cut away to fast to see how they did it. Older, with the extra second of footage, you can kind of see the effect.

Another hand scene... In Depserado - when Bandaras gets his hand shot. It also moved really quickly. I always wondered about it when I watched it on VHS. But on the DVD, I used the freeze frame. In one frame, you can actually see a red ball in mid-air before hitting his hand.

I mentioned this in a Blu-Ray thread, but I never noticed this before I saw Halloween in HD:

When Annie and Laurie check behind the bushes after the "he wants to take you out tonight" line, the camera gives a shot over the hedges and shows two guys on a porch watching them film.

I've known this since it first appeared on cable in the 80's.

Obligatory Commando line

"Where's Sully?"
"I let him go."

I watched South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut over ten times before I realized that the title is a double-entendre. And not a very subtle one.

I am a huge Porsche 911 fan ( I can walk around a 911 and tell you what year it was made or at least what years that particular version was produced) and it always takes me out of a movie if they change the car that is actually destroyed or blown up. They assume if it's a 911 the actors are using and they destroy an older one in the next scene that the audience won't notice it's a different year model. Well, I do and I think it's just cheap of them to not destroy the same one or at least the same year car the actors are using. To most people a 911 all look the same no matter if it's a 1964 or 2008.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was intentional - by the looks of it, it clearly does look like it was on purpose but then again ya never know.

After watching Memento at least 35 times I noticed the quick shot of Guy Pierce as Sammy Jankis. I also noticed the motel dude was in Batman Begins.

Watching Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me on TV for the first time in years tonight, I realized that Will Farrell has a small part in this movie. I guess I wasn't familiar with him the last time I saw it, I feel kinda stupid now.

It took me a number of viewings to catch that Karl and Theo have a bet going in the Die Hard scene where Hans interrogates Takagi to try to get the code. That's why Karl keeps pushing about it not being over yet; then in the end he hands Theo money.

Then you'll probably be extra surprised to learn that he's just reprising his role from the first one.

I must have watched that movie 50 times back in the '80s before my friend pointed that out. I never noticed it either.

What always made me laugh was in Terminator 2, when arnold jump down off the bridge on the motorcycle to get away from Robert Patrick (whose in a truck) and its an obvious stuntguy...

They even show this shot in previews and your like... wow - Thats not Arnold.

I was watching the Truman Show last night and I noticed that right after he sees the fake elevator and starts running out, he uses his briefcase to whack a guy on a ladder who doesn't flinch.

That was funny to me.
