Great Movie but I saw a lot of stuff that looked like it was ripped straight from Training Day. The good News? Training Day is my favorite movie. Terry Crews, Quicks, and a coupel others were in Training Day aswell.

My only problems with the movie was some grossly miscasted characters like Cedric, Jay Mohr and even Terry Crews. I didn't buy Crews being the righteous Good Guy.

Alot of people probably thought Keanu was miscasted, but I thought he was very good. As mentioned above his character was angry and dead inside.

I got around to seeing this tonight (was either this or 88 Minutes). Keanu wasn't bad in the lead, but it played out like a below average episode of The Shield. I expected better dialogue and a tighter plot from the likes of Ellroy. Grade: C

Saw this last night. I'm a whore for a good cop thriller/action/drama, so I was mildly interested in seeing it despite the mixed reviews. Keanu isn't De Niro, but he was serviceable. However, the supporting cast makes it, Whitaker and Laurie are greatness (my cousin said the latter was basically House with a badge; haven't watched the show before but know the route he's going). Chris Evans has a lot of potential from what I've seen here, and I'd like to see him in other things not involving flaming on. However, it did have some flaws.

What I liked:

-The opening scene is fantastic and brutal as hell.

-Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie, Chris Evans, Terry Crews, Common.

-The grittiness and unrefined brutality of the film. The violence, especially when
Spoiler:
Crews' character gets killed
was definitely a plus given its no-man's-land setting. Also loved
Spoiler:
John Corbett's death. Shades of Re-Animator!

-The dialogue was aptly written.

-Keanu Reeves isn't a complete retard in his role and is watchable, though I would have preferred another actor.

When it reaches the last third it got quite convoluted and was really veering into an overly Hollywood-y world. I wouldn't put this in the league of Serpico or The French Connection or To Live and Die in L.A. or Training Day, or the dark shadows of morality Gone Baby Gone displayed so brilliantly, but it was definitely highly entertaining and wouldn't rule out buying the Blu-ray.

*** out of four.

I really liked that the frame-up was obvious and out of the way quickly... it let the movie settle into a nice simmering boil. I would have liked to see more of Chris Evans, but I understand where his character stood in the scheme of things.

My buddy made the best comment about Keanu Reeves: "it's Neo, but instead of the Matrix, it's the LAPD".

Still, it's a cool, 'honest' flick, nicely lacking in pretension.

I mildly agree with some of the criticisms about overacting, predictable, and dialogue issues, but I enjoyed the film. It did the only thing I expect from a movie, it entertained me.

Overall fun ride in the "guy" cop movie genre.

I caught this a week ago and I too enjoyed it. It kept me paying attention and actually wanting to get involved. And I'm a sucker for Hugh Laurie

I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Reeves is Reeves, sometimes you're not sure if he's even awake. Whitaker is definitely hamming it up, but he does it so well, it's enjoyable. Laurie doesn't have much to do except look smug. The plot doesn't really hold water, and the twists are so obvious, but it's never boring.

Slight spoiler, no names mentioned
Spoiler:
It also uses the movie cliche of The Talking Killer. Bad guy has good guy incapacitated, but starts flapping his gums rather than kill. Good guy figures out an escape.
