I caught this yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I'm not a big X-Files fan, but I've seen a few episodes here and there. As soon as I heard that this was a stand alone drama, I thought I'd give it a shot. I didn't feel lost within the movie, they laid it out very well so even if I didn't 100% understand some of the underlying themes and background, I still knew what was going on.
I wish they would have dealt with the villains a little more, they were the most interesting part of the movie to me but just never got enough screen time or background. Overall, three star rating from me, good way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon.

INDY 4 was one of the dullest films I've seen all year. Just because there's lots of 'action' doesn't make it interesting. I almost walked out halfway through. I cannot even fathom the concept of someone voluntarily sitting through it four (!!!) times. It hurts my brain even thinking about it.

I liked X-files and thought it was enjoyable. A bit long but better than most Thrillers out there.

This movie was a disappointment in every way. It's such a shame we will most likely never see another X-Files film. But considering how bad this one is (I'd give it two stars) I wouldn't exactly run to the multiplex to see another one anyway.

Saw this last night. I agree with a lot of other posters that it was ok but largely underwhelming. After such a long break THIS is the best story you've got?
I hope there's more X-Files after this because I used to like the show but after this movie, I doubt it, and I guess that's ok with me.

Count me as a believer. Not a powerhouse story, but a solid one that provoked thought and stayed true to the characters. I didn't need running around with guns to stay invested.
It's a wonderful counterpoint to the "explosivo" summer - a film that will surely be treated kinder on DVD.
As for the marketing...you better believe that Fox dropped the ball. Opening the film during Comic Con, one week after Dark Knight - those are big factors. However Fox failed to do anything with the marketing. No teasers well in advance, no excitement, not even a final one-sheet as far as I can tell.
Fox just threw it out there counting on the fans, and it didn't work.

I liked it a whole lot. What amazed me was how well the characters were developed. Yeah, Xzibit and Amanda Peet weren't too important, but they felt fairly real, so that didn't matter. I thought the first film let the characters get overshadowed by special effects, and I never really liked the alien conspiracy stuff. I loved the exchanges this time around, and the script was well written. It's a quiet thriller, and I was interested and engaged the whole time. Like someone else has said, it's a very contemplative film, and probably isn't "suitable" for the summer season. Was it great? No, but it was a solid thriller, so I'd give it three out of four stars.

I liked it for what it was. A low key character driven movie.
Anyone who was looking for a film full of explosions and car chases wasn't expecting an X-Files movie.
I think Chris Carter wrote a script based on fans thoughts and reaction to the last two years of the show. He wanted to go back to what made the show great. He knew that this movie would not satisfy everyone but no X-files movie ever will. The show was just too good.

The writing was much better than reviews had led me to anticipate, and on the whole I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's miles better than the first X-Files movie and would have been a worthy two-part episode during the early seasons of the series. The modest aim of the script also makes it far more believable, as the government conspiracy theme from the series has aged horribly in the wake of 9/11, Katrina, and the now-widespread belief that bureaucracy breeds incompetence.
The picture as a whole reminds me of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (minus the long lines of excitable fans). Not a bad effort, and hopefully it'll make enough money on DVD to warrant a new film every two or three years.

I was in San Diego for Comic-Con and this barely got noticed. You know it's bad when you can't generate the slightest buzz when opening on the geekiest weekend of the year.

I loved it. Not 5 star by any means, but a very good thriller better than most of the episodes. Agree with the weak villains complaint.

Count me in with the ok but not anything special crowd. Definitely better than most of the reviews would lead you to believe (yes, I want to believe!) but considering we waited and waited, we deserved better.

You gotta be shitting me. I can name 2 dozen episodes off the top of my head that put this movie to shame.
