Actually, I followed a link and didn't notice the title up in the tab. I blamed myself when I said 'I spoiled it' - no knock against anybody else.

HBO ran a 'First Look' special on it, so I'll eventually get to see it.

'Avatar 2' Details! Where the Sequel will Take Place and More

On the eve of its first (of many) DVD releases, we finally have some concrete information with regards to where James Cameron plans to take his Avatar sequel. Not surprisingly – considering Cameron's love for all things underwater – it appears as if Avatar 2 will concentrate on the oceans of Pandora. In a question about the challenges of his next project, Cameron revealed to the LA Times a little more about the ground (or should I say, water) he'd love to cover in the sequel.

Says Cameron, "Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I'm going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won't be a rain forest. I'm not saying we won't see what we've already seen; we'll see more of that as well."

Based on those statements, it would appear as if Cameron wants to remain on Pandora instead of venturing out to other planets or moons. In some earlier quotes, it was suggested that Avatar 2 would visit new worlds. Has that changed, or has it just expanded to include oceans? We don't know…yet.

Good news, though, for people who want to experience Avatar in 3D on the big screen again: James Cameron also revealed that they're finishing up six minutes of additional footage that will be added to Avatar for a re-release this August. Obviously the film will have been out on DVD for awhile, but the opportunity to watch six extra never-before-seen minutes, as well as to experience the film in 3D once more, may be too enticing to turn down.

Will you see Avatar when it's re-released in August? And what do you think about Avatar 2 focusing on the oceans of Pandora?

I like the direction Cameron is taking this. I'll bet he's got loads of great ideas for some undersea beasties after all his deep sea dives. Beats a total retread of the first film, which would have been the easy way out.

Cameron returns to space with 2 'Avatar' sequels

I didn't see it posted anywhere. From Yahoo news.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101027/...us_film_avatar

LOS ANGELES – James Cameron will start writing the scripts for two "Avatar" sequels early next year, aiming to land the first one in theaters four years from now.

Executives at 20th Century Fox announced Wednesday that Cameron has settled on two sequels to the blockbuster hit as his next film projects with plans to begin production in late 2011.

The studio hopes to have the first of the as-yet-untitled sequels in theaters in December 2014, with the third movie in the franchise following in December 2015.

Cameron will decide whether to shoot the films back-to-back after he completes the scripts for the sequels to his sci-fi sensation. Set on the distant Pandora, "Avatar" is the biggest modern blockbuster, with $2.8 billion at the box office worldwide.

"In the second and third films, which will be self-contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc, we will not back off the throttle of `Avatar's' visual and emotional horsepower, and will continue to explore its themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world," Cameron said in a news release.

"I'm looking forward to returning to Pandora, a world where our imaginations can run wild."

Cameron had been up in the air on what he would do next, telling reporters as recently as last week that he had not decided whether to shoot another film before returning to his "Avatar" saga.

The studio was anxious to get back into the "Avatar" business.

"We had no higher priority, and can feel no greater joy, than enabling Jim to continue and expand his vision of the world of `Avatar,'" Fox studio bosses Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman said in a statement.

"`Avatar' is not only the highest grossing movie of all time, it is a created universe based on the singular imagination and daring of James Cameron, who also raised the consciousness of people worldwide to some of the greatest issues facing our planet."

"Avatar" follows the adventures of a man in alien form (Sam Worthington) who falls for a 10-foot, blue-skinned native (Zoe Saldana) of the distant moon Pandora, where greedy humans wage war over the land's natural resources.

Did Asylum do an AVATAR rip-off at all?

Not really new news, but I'd rather see him do these than Cleopatra. The ideas I've read he has in mind for the sequel sound intriguing.

So does this mean that he's not doing Battle Angel?

I'll see them, but for the love of god Cameron, these movies will already have our main characters, basic premise, and environment all established. Neither needs to be over an hour and a half. PLEASE.

Re: Cameron returns to space with 2 'Avatar' sequels

I hear that in Part 2 the story picks up some years later after all of Pandora is covered in water. The main character has to fight pirates who have cornered the power supply for the planet, all the while he searches for not-wet-land.

In part 3, the main character leads the others after their world has had some kind of apocalypse-type situation, against bad guys, even though he is just a lowly UPS guy.

little known fact there will be a part 4 too.
In this the main character was once a great golfer but has lost his way, but with the help of a girl gets back on track and almost gets there but falls apart on the last hole.

Great stuff.....

Re: Cameron returns to space with 2 'Avatar' sequels

Seems the budget for the sequels would be less than Avatar 1 since a lot of the $$$ went into developing the tech created for it.

I really enjoyed Avatar, and I think it's sequel potential is excellent. Plus, if anyone knows how to make a sequel, it's Cameron.

just sad I have to wait 4-5 years.

Re: Cameron returns to space with 2 'Avatar' sequels

I'm not really interested in sequels by the same people. One of the great things about ALIENS (1986) is that James Cameron, the director and author of the screenplay, had nothing to do with the film's predecessor, ALIEN (1979). THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was directed by Irvin Kershner, not George Lucas. (Granted, this can backfire when you've got lesser people doing the sequels. Ted Post directed the second PLANET OF THE APES film and the second DIRTY HARRY film and, while I enjoyed both, they're pale echoes of the originals, although still better than the sequels that followed, all by different people. Not to mention Schumacher and the Batman sequels.)

In any event, here's what I'm proposing:
Tarantino directs the AVATAR sequel.
Cameron directs KILL BILL VOL. 3.

That's what I want to see.
