If it's film IMAX you won't get the Harry glasses. Digital you might.

This movie is epic. It's a very fitting end to the series. Can't believe it's been ten years.

Checked this out tonight at an IMAX location. Enjoyed it a lot but still felt it could have been 10 minutes longer to really savior the big moments that the previous films had so wonderfully built.

I did ask around before the screening and was told that the theater I was at (one of the biggest in MD), were only getting about 750 of the special HP 3D glasses, so it's midnight or bust for those.

Hmm, not surprising that they'd restrict supply. So I won't get my hopes up or mention it to my kid.

At least this is opening in the summer so irresponsible parents won't be taking their kids to midnight showings on school nights. Unless their brat's in summer school for missing so many classes because of previous Harry Potter midnight screenings.

Armond White gave it a negative review. It's official, this movie is gonna kick ass!!!

EDIT: "Now that the Harry Potter series is over, maybe the truth can be realized: This has been the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises." -Armond White

Irresponsible? God forbid parents spend time and take their kids to events they're interested in without comments from the peanut gallery.

It is pretty irresponsible to take a kid to a midnight showing of a movie and force them to go to school on Friday morning or skip school altogether.

Says who? It would be one day in the American public school system, something tells me they'd be ok. Here's a nugget, just because parents make a decision to do things with their children doesn't make them irresponsible. You might be surprised that some of those "irresponsible" parents who are doing the inexcusable thing of spending time with their kids do it more frequently than at a midnight movie premiere.

I also took them out of school for a week for a trip to Disneyworld, how irresponsible was that?

Thought about it and naw, it's irresponsible. Totally sincere here. 100% < sarcasm> free.

Though I will argue spending time with your kids doesn't automatically get parents out of the irresponsible column. Though I guess some parents could be responsible for intentionally raising assholes.

Well, as long as it's decided. Thank god it's July so CPS won't need to get involved.

In my ten plus years on this forum, this might just be the silliest thing I have ever read.

I aimed for the stars and generally don't get deterred until I hit my goals.

The movie currently has 126 reviews, 5 are negative. 96%, highest rated of the Potter flicks by a pretty decent margin, average score is an 8.4 out of 10. Roughly 120 or so additional reviews should be added by the end of the weekend, curious to see how well it holds up. That puts it about on par with the 2nd and 3rd LotR features.

Warner Bros claims they have sold $13m worth of midnight showings so far, it has a bit of a way to go to hit the $30m Twilight: Eclipse pulled (they'll twist it in the press as well since Potter has 3D showings) but it seems possible that it can hit that.

To compare, Deathly Hallows Pt 1 had a midnight opening of $24m, The Dark Knight sold $18.5m in midnight tickets

This will be the first midnight showing my kids (10 and 7) attend and I'm going to make sure they do it right. It's the end of an era and there won't be anything like this for a long, long time - if ever. I just hope the movie lives up to my expectations, though I have zero doubts. Part 1 was probably my favorite movie of the series to-date. This should exceed that.
7 seems a little young for the movies to me. Did the deaths or torture in 5 or 7 pt1 bother your 7 year old at all?

I already have a call into them Why on earth would someone really care if you take your kid to a single midnight showing of a family movie or take your kid out of school for a week to go on vacation? I know this is the internet and all, but it seems like we are a nation of judgmental busybodies now.

Yeah, it bothers her. It bothers me. It's supposed to bother you, that's the point. This is all old hat to them, the older one was watching LotR with me when she was that age or younger. It's about context and being there with your kids to comfort and explain things to them. Responsible

Seriously, though, they know they're movies. We watch the features on the discs so they can see how things aren't real. They've been to the park at Universal Studios. The older one (10) is reading the books.

Midnight premieres is something I've always done. They're finally at an age where it's feasible to take them. We're going. These are memories I want them to have. I want them to know that their father shared things, did things, treated them like human beings, and gave experiences they could never recreate. This is an event. They'll be part of it. They'd be part of it if it was a schoolnight.

I think it would be awesome to be able to share my love of this series with my kids, but they are a little too young at this point (oldest is 6). My wife really wants to go to the park, so maybe in the future we can make it a family vacation.

When I came in to work yesterday, my boss was laughing about some awful review he read where the guy "clearly didn't get it" and called it "the most boring franchise in history." I said, "Was it Armond White?" And his jaw dropped. He asked me how I knew.

Midnight screenings started around here when I was in high school (I remember Lord of the Rings, Star Wars II). I made it to school the next day. But I would just sleep (full on sleep) at my desks for the first few classes.

I don't understand people who can't sleepwalk through K-12 school. There was really nothing to it.

My friend had an extra ticket to the midnight show, so I left the house a little PAST MIDNIGHT to get to the theater...sadly I missed the Dark Knight trailer, but I missed none of the movie. Really enjoyed it, much better than the other Yates ones I'd say.

I did wonder when I turned into such a curmudgeon. But seriously, I went in open and ready to be blown away -- I was sure this was going to be the movie of the summer, because I liked the last one so much -- and it didn't have any emotional effect on me. Even the few things I thought were visually interesting or thrilling, I felt beside myself, flatly observing that they were those things rather than feeling it.

I don't think they did enough to highlight the loss some of the characters and families felt. There was a lot left unsaid or just implied. Still, that's what the books are for.

The pensieve scene, however, validated the entire saga. Absolutely spectacular.
