Interesting post Defiant1. It sure makes a lot of sense to have a seasoned AD with a lot of experience on bigger budget films when taking that initial plunge into a big SFX film.

Interesting, that makes sense. I'd also guess that the DP also does a lot of the heavy lifting as well.

I would also be very interested in knowing the process that say Gore Verbinski went through to do Rango, or Brad Bird to do Ghost Protocol. Both movies turned out great, and they certainly brought their respective talents to different mediums.

I think directors like that will often visit the set of a big budget movie currently in production to learn the ropes and see how things operate. I remember when James Cameron was making Avatar, every director in town seemed to visit the set. I imagine most were curious to see the technical aspects.

I'm waiting for a movie about dinosaurs who have gotten more athletic, rather than smarter, and are able to run around jumping over things, sliding under things, and climbing walls ... Jurassic Parkour!

No problem. I had the first couple eps on VHS and basically wore out the tape. I never saw it on TV for some reason. I didn't know there were that many episodes until I discovered it on youtube a couple years ago.

They were my favorite toy line.

Jurassic Park returning to original island.

"Trevorrow has now updated his Twitter account with a photo of a place where the director is planning to film. Along with the photo, he wrote: "Nublar."

re: Jurassic World (2015, Trevorrow)

Not a surprise...

Universal had its big budget dino sequel set for June 13, 2014. But director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) had only come aboard in March, leaving a narrow window for production on the CG-heavy pic. “In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise”, the studio said today in a statement. “We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history”. A new release date was not announced.

Good. Don't pump out some rush hack job. I'm fine with waiting if it means we get a better film.

Eh, I'd rather they take time than rush to meet an arbitrary date.

Definitely, after the horrible 2 and the unfinished 3 we need a real story this time. Not just a bunch of set pieces, I want to see an actual plot with dinosaurs.

Assuming they do it right, that is one aspect I think would be cool to explore in the newest movie. Having the characters going through the same buildings and places as they did in the first movie but now with the jungle growing all around it from being uninhabited for all these years.

It's being shot in 3D which doesn't bode well for a decent story. Just a bunch of dinosaurs running at the screen.

Hmmm... not seeing a "IV" in that promo art... Maybe Neil was right about this being a reboot of sorts.

I'm just glad they're rushing this into production, hopefully they don't waste time trying to hone the screenplay, just focus on getting as many dinosaurs as possible up on the screen with non stop action, and explosive carnage.

re: Jurassic World (2015, Trevorrow)

JURASSIC PARK 4, set in present day Isla Nublar, is now an actual theme park, as originally intended by John Hammond in the first film. It garners 10 million visitors per year and is completely safe - until it's not. The park itself is described as very Sea World-esque and includes an area called the Isla Nublar Lagoon. That means underwater dino's for the first time. No indication of what kind, but there's concept art showing one of the aquatic dino's, as part of a show, jumping out of the lagoon and eating a strung up great white shark like it was a fish for a dolphin at sea world.

As part of a show, you ask? That's right, folks, this will feature "tamed" dino's. In fact, our source indicated that the usually menacing Velociraptors (which will finally be muzzled, along with the T-Rex - until they're not) will actually be used to help fight the threat, which begins in the form of a new dinosaur, not seen in any of the previous films (and not disclosed to us) shows to be much smarter than originally thought and is the main cause of havoc breaking out at the park.

So, to sum it all up, JURASSIC PARK 4 will take place back on Isla Nublar with a fully operational dinosaur theme park (I'm sure no expense was spared) that's both prosperous and safe, until a new dinosaur figures out a way to wreak havoc, causing the use of the now tamed Velociraptors (and T-Rex? Unclear) as a means to fighting the threat.

Fingers crossed for a T-Rex laser head cannon attack plan.

Sounds interesting, definitely something new, which the franchise needs.

re: Jurassic World (2015, Trevorrow)

I'm going to speculate that the new Big Bad will be the Utahraptor, a dino about twice the size of the Velociraptors as seen in the films (which are based more on Deinonychus). The "raptor" dinos all had massive
