Movies you like that everyone around you hates
Green Lantern
i was surprised that i really enjoyed eventhough it got widely panned by both critics and theater goers.

Titanic
Avatar
Independence Day
Those are my top three for films I love but most everyone on the internet hates. Oh wellz.
Pretty much the antithesis of that opposite thread since it was all-too clear that people hate anything considered 'popular' in that thread. A point brought up but not surprisingly ignored.

I liked Avatar and I'll defend it. Pretty much the same thoughts I had on Titantic..minus Celine Dion. Also..the 3D was pretty good.
I've no qualms w/ ID. It was a popcorn movie through and through..but damnit..it was fun as hell.

were you the one that got excited for Pootie Tang out of nowhere in a thread...probably no more than 4 months ago?

I like Titanic...I only hate the piece of music that reminds me of Celine Dion. Story is a bit generic but it's done well. Overrated though..but I still enjoy it. Cant' wait for the BD.

ID4 is indeed a popcorn movie and that was the intent behind it. Hell yeah. I'm not one of those "oh I can't enjoy something because I'm so jaded by today's effects" so I have no issues with the effects being 'dated' or anything.
It also features my favorite score.
Can we get subtitles for those subtitles?
What in the hell is he saying? He's worse than Bane!
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
Only saw it once a couple of years ago but I found it to be a lot of fun. Dirt-cheap effects that are The Suck and Uhura should've been left on that planet for that song and dance number but a lot of fun.

Swordfish - Yeah, it's dumb and the rest of the movie doesn't measure up to the opening dialogue scene, but I still enjoyed it.

I like this one a lot too. It's slower than the other films and doesn't have as much action but it's still a good movie. To be honest it seems like a bunch of fans will tell you that the odd numbered Trek movies aren't very good but I've never really agreed with that. The only Star Trek film I'm not a huge fan of is Insurrection.
Others that I see get mentioned sometimes:
007 Quantum of Solace
Back to the Future Part III
Clash of the Titans (2010)
Wrath of the Titans

Also:
Hulk
Catwoman
Yup, I'm a sucker for superhero movies. My thought is a superhero movie is better than any number of generic chick flicks they think all women love. Not me.
Chicago
Around the World in 80 Days
Terminator Salvation (but I think that has more to do with my love for the franchise and huge crush on Sam Worthington)

Re: Movies you like that everyone around you hates
This one has really sort of grown on me lately.
I mean, yeah, they just put Doomsday Machine, The Changeling, and 2001 A Space Odyssey in a blender and came up with the plot, but ST:TMP has a gravity and sense of urgency that I like.
There's this sense of pulling the old crew back together to deal with an emergency, Spock's off doing some weird Vulcan shit that's only hinted at, Kirk is dealing with a mid-life crisis, McCoy was off somewhere with a big bushy beard, leisure suit, and Bob Guccione medallion.
And I also liked the original V'ger. When I first saw this as a kid, it was really sort of exciting and terrifying -- the idea that there was huge cloud in space, heading toward Earth, with something inside of it. And then the Enterprise goes flying through it, and you couldn't quite tell what was inside of it... it was like this giant ship and you couldn't tell where the cloud ended and the ship began, and the ship was huge and strange and you could only ever see little parts of it and never the whole thing.
The directors cut really blew that when they showed the whole ship onscreen.

Re: Movies you like that everyone around you hates
I saw this a few weeks ago during the 3D theatrical re-release and I forgot what a great movie this is. Now that enough time has passed and the hoopla has settled down over it I was caught off guard by how much the movie moved me.
I've got my share of problems with T3 and I understand why people don't like it due to it totally negating T2 but the incredibly ballsy ending sold me on this movie. Its got some fairly cool action sequences too!
