Re: Bob Hoskins announces retirement due to Parkinson's Disease

Tremendous actor, and such a tragic way to spend one's remaining years.

He totally blew Leonardo DeCaprio out of the water when it came to playing J. Edgar Hoover as he did in Nixon.

And he was a delight in Mrs. Henderson Presents.

Sad to hear. Loved him in Danny the Dog.

One of my favorite actors. The man is an acting titan. So sad to see him hang up the spurs.

Re: Bob Hoskins announces retirement due to Parkinson's Disease

This should inspire me to finally watch "The Long Good Friday", since it's been sitting in my Netflix queue for a while.

He's a great actor capable of delivering powerful, commanding performances. Too bad he has to bow out, but it sounds like he made the right call.

I guess he won't be in the Snow White/Huntsman sequel as a dwarf.

I've had this in the queue for a while also. I haven't seen much of him besides Roger Rabbit and Unleashed. Time to change that.

He'll always be Smee to me. I really haven't seen a lot of his films, so I may have to seek some out.

That and Mona Lisa are my favorite Hoskins films.

I was listening to In too Deep yesterday and was thinking of his performance in Mona Lisa.

Such an excellent actor.

I was just watching that recently, and there's a scene with him and Fred Gwynne (when the two characters are reunited) which is just terrific.

RIP.

Fucking Parkinson's.

Of his more recent performances, his Hoover in Nixon was beautifully rendered. RIP.

It's easy to dismiss but always liked his gumshoe in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."

His performance in Felicia's Journey was worthy of an Oscar nomination.

Fantastic actor. He worked on excellent projects pretty much right up till the end.

Yep, very underrated role considering many of his scenes were opposite cartoons who were added later.

Think about the terrible acting jobs from the Star Wars prequels due to standing in front of green screens and then compare that to Hoskins' wonderful performance in WFRR.

To be fair, a lot of that falls at the foot of Lucas, who by all accounts is terrible at giving direction to actors.
