I saw this with a friend tonight and found it incredibly dull.
Maybe I'm desensitized to it but I didn't think the movie was nearly as kinky or raunchy as I was expecting it to be. I also found both leads to be completely boring and uncharismatic in every sense, and an overall story that felt rushed and ultimately led nowhere.
So of course I'll see the sequel.

A friend of mine saw Seventh Son. She said it was good for a matinee but not much else. I still wanna see it but will do so with lowered expectations.

The one thing the struck me was during the "business meeting" where they talked openly about some of the sex acts and items. While the actual sex scenes were fairly tame, the discussion of everything was at least a little bit interesting for me to see in a mainstream movie.

The problem is that at its core, the source material is terrible with a completely ignorant understanding of what S&M actually is. It was never going to be a good movie.

Exactly right. Which is why you have two options. Completely rewrite the story and make it a legitimate exploration of a budding BDSM relationship or go the full-on exploitation route.

You're not misinformed. The general view of the BDSM community is that the film gives unknowing viewers an incorrect depiction of BDSM and that only those that know nothing about BDSM would think the movie and the books to be any good.

This crossed $100m yesterday. It's now at $102m. It will have a massive drop but probably still pull $24m or so, and is expected to top the BO again this weekend.
