Could be talking popular in terms of box office receipts...

For Cavill, top 3 Movies Prior to Man of Steel (Wordwide Grosses):
Immortals (2011) - $226M
Stardust (2007) - $136M
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) - $75M

For Bale, top 3 Movies Prior to Batman Begins:
Shaft (2000) - $107M
Reign of Fire (2002) - $82M
Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) - $62M

Well, we just got our first pic of Aquaman. Zack Snyder tweeted this about a half an hour ago.

What the fuck...Not digging that at all. It would be better if he was wearing all armor and no lame tattoos.

Seems in keeping with the style (dark). IDK, fine with it I guess.

I don't mind the comic look when he had the longer hair and beard, but does he have to look like a tattooed greaser? That doesn't even seem like Aquaman in the slightest to me but more like something out of 300 or something. It seems like they're trying too hard to make the character edgy to make people forget his past as he's been perceived as lame by many. Not a fan at all.

Aquaman looks okay. I figured they wouldn't keep any classic elements in play for his design. I don't mind them messing with Aquaman, though the hair is a little too wild for my tastes. Does this really look like a hero the public would accept in the Justice League?

This seems to be a play for Game of Thrones' fans. Aquaman's new look would fit right in on that show.

His New 52 look isn't bad and I think could have been adapted to live action fairly easily. Like I said it feels like they're trying way too hard to make him seem edgy or something. That really doesn't feel like Aquaman in the slightest which begs the question, if they have so little faith in the public's perception of the character they have to change him that much why even use the character?

Aquaman has one of the absolute goofiest superhero costumes in the history of the genre. Sorry but this new one is a massive upgrade over this:

The new one is pretty good.

Hollywood loves having epic ocean scenes in their blockbusters. They have them down to a science and foreign audiences eat it up.

It's hard naming blockbusters that entirely avoid spectacular ocean settings driven by CGI. Water is cheap to animate.

Damn that is a drastic change compared to the cool looking Aquaman 52. It's so muted. Fishes and sea creatures are mostly colorful. This guy looks like he works at a tattoo shop. I really wanted some nice dark orange with the green. But then again Batman looks cool and so does Superman's suit so who knows how Momoa will look on screen. I just hope they don't show him with a massive prince albert.

Of course taking one of the lamest images you can find and making fun of it is easy, but you can do that to a bunch of comic characters.

Spoiler:

The spoilerized image above is his New 52 look which isn't bad I don't think. Imagine for a film the colors would be a bit more muted and make some minor changes I think it would be fine. It's stuff like this that keeps happening that really is making it hard for me to have faith that any of these DC films will not be shit.

true enough, but I still like the Momoa look better. Along with the hair as well. The whole package fits together pretty good. I think crafting a look that fits the actor is better than shoe horning in a costume just because it was used in the comics. Momoa looks pretty bad ass.

If they bring back Superman's proper colors, Aquaman can wear black for all I care. I wouldn't have minded that new 52 costume but this design appears to be leftover from an aborted Lobo movie.

I think Momoa was a good choice for the role since he has such a physically intimidating look to his appearance.

At the same time though making such drastic changes that the actor and costume barely resemble the character, what's the point in using the character to begin with? There's so little resemblance to Aquaman in that picture if I didn't know that's what it was supposed to be I would think it was something out of 300 or Game of Thrones or something.

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

I would argue a few things, 1) the original and even updated costumes are dated and a little cheesy, 2) Aquaman isn't NEARLY as iconic as Batman or Superman so I think they have a little more wiggle room costume wise (I.E most of the superhero costumes in the X Men franchise were vastly different from the comics and yet worked perfectly fine for X Men characters in the universe they were creating) and 3) in the grand scheme of things, his powers, origins and character development are a hell of a lot more important in defining his identity than a costume.

I'm not saying he is as iconic as many of the big characters but like I said making such drastic changes that the character doesn't resemble what it's based off of in the slightest is stupid. Some changes are fine I'm not saying it has to be the exact comic look but to look nothing at all close is completely stupid. Most comic characters have cheesy outfits it's just a matter of how they're adapted to live action and for the most part a lot of them have done a fine job at balancing the comic look and making it look decent in live action form. I agree that how the character is portrayed is important and I'm not saying that the character won't be portrayed faithfully but he just doesn't look the part at all. Also for the record I've always hated the X-Men outfits for being so plain too but I agree the films mostly worked.

Glad they made Aquaman a brunette. The whole Biff Captain of the water polo team look just didn't do it for me.

He looks just like the Peter David-era Aquaman but with tattoos.

Isn't the New 52 Aquaman design pretty much the same as the original Aquaman design?

I hate when they change the characters to the point of being unrecognizable. But as long as the movie version is true to the character and spirit of the comic book version I'm okay with it.

[QUOTE=stingermck;12401103]Haha, OMG the nerd rage on this is going to be great!

I'm a comic book nerd and I think it's a good design. Looks like his 90s comic counterpart.
