Yeah. Whedon has said no. It's unrealistic now. Plus some major elements of the cast are no longer useful.

We may see something set in the same universe eventually, but we won't ever see a true follow-up film or TV series.

Also, this thread is excellent for figuring out who has crappy taste in TV & movies. Firefly & Serenity (Avengers, Angel, Buffy, ect.) were fantastic.

I would love for it to happen but I think that the most we will get is more comic book stories.

I've nothing for Buffy, only seen a few episodes so not much to say. But for all the great writing Whedon does, he's a far weaker director. Probably my only gripe for him.

I enjoyed Firefly and Serenity, but never really understood the overwhelming love and cult status that it's generated. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel just because I like the world that was created, but it sure doesn't look likely.

Hardly anyone watched the movie.

Lifes just too short for mediocrity.

No one can explain Nathan Fillions career and how he got one.

No.

That takes it to #17 for the year.

With any luck it can do $122M and take out G.I. Joe for the 13th spot, but I doubt it will do any better than that.

Easily the funniest movie I've seen this year!!!
I think I literally can hear your life ending…

I enjoyed them as well. I think the cult status can simply be attributed to the shows premature demise.
All the love for Marvel's The Avengers is the one that baffles me.

I doesn't have the greatest story ever and Whedon still has a ways to go as a director but there's the factor of seeing all these characters finally together on the big screen, the sheer level of fun the movie goes for, and the funny banter.

It's not the best movie ever made but it's one of the better "popcorn flicks".

Exactly, Joss pulled off fairly well what has always been the death knell for superhero movies. Simply too much shit and too many heroes/villains going on in one movie.

I would welcome a sequel, or anything set in that universe, but I highly doubt it will ever happen. I'm happy with what we got, and thought it was a fitting end.

Yeah, this.

Even then, we've only gotten two three issue miniseries, one-shot, and a 48 page graphic novel in the last ten years. And none of them have been very good, at that. Dodgy art, and they've all been too short to tell a decent story.

i mean it wasn't a total bomb was it? made slightly under total production costs of $39 mil.

it was such a good character study and what action was there was super.

with Joss now garnering high honors for his stellar work on The Avengers any chance a sequel gets greenlit or even a self-funded project gets going ever?
I don't think so, no.

Re: Serenity sequel ...any chance?

Doubtful, and at this point I think another sequel would be even more awkward than Serenity was. The series spent a lot of time planting future plot threads that would have populated the series run, River's fugitive status & abilities, Book's dark past, the Reavers, etc. These were all meant to be ongoing interweaving threads over the course of the next few years, then most were wrapped up in one movie. That was the best we could have asked for, but at this point I say just leave it at that.

And especially now that the cast has aged a bit, I don't think Firefly lends to jumping forward years in time. And remember how odd it was seeing Kaylee thin as a stick since Jewel Staite reverted back to being "Hollywood beautiful" again? That actually hurt the character IMO, plus she was so much hotter in the show.

It's nice that Alan Tudyk would be interested, but since he died I wouldn't get my hopes up on seeing what Wash is up to ten years later.
