Ghostbusters start its week-long theatrical engagement tomorrow. Most theaters are are showing it all day, not just one dedicated time. It doesn't sound like its the "extended" version Ernie Hudson alluded to, but it's the print sourced from the 4K scan done last year.

Got to see Seven Samurai in 35mm. Print was. It beat up, but I really found the experience pretty special. Not going to get many chances to see prints anymore, so I felt privileged. Plus it's just a hell of a film. I think that it's anniversaries which are obviously most likely to get newer DCPs of older stuff back out there.

Otherwise, I'll only see retro showing in 35mm. Seeing the dirt, scratches and splices on the print just add to the charm.

It's official!!! Theaters in South Africa SUCK!!!
Our theatres just don't do this type of thing. Unless it's an independent. And I don't think there are that many about anymore. We're ruled by the big boys...
It's a very sad state of affairs, folks.

For some reason beyond my comprehension, Forrest Gump is getting an IMAX exclusive release for its 20th anniversary. Not sure why a general re-release wasn't sufficient (this isn't a knock on the movie -- unlike most of the internet, I've grown to really enjoy it over the years).

Most theater chains just started doing it here when they switched to digital. The arthouse theaters always did it, and do so with 35mm film.
