It's so rare that we get an IMAX release that was filmed on IMAX and not 3D!

Re: Interstellar (Nolan, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
NPR's David Edlestein had an amusing review. He genuinely enjoyed it, but his criticism is very much full of back-handed compliments and he makes no bones about aspects of it being downright silly and goofy- an aspect which contributed, and not detracted, to his enjoyment of it. He also had high praise for the spectacle.
But the part of his review that really caught my attention was when he commented on Nolan's fans ("Nolanoids" as he calls them). Apparently it's not just people who waste all day on message boards who are familiar with the True Believer-like ferocity of this filmmakers admirers.

I was too lazy to go to the real IMAX here in L.A.,so we settled for a standard 35mm print at the local Arclight. It was great. I'm still digesting the film, but the Spielberg comparison is unfounded, because the film is nowhere near as sentimental as anything Spielberg has ever done. Interstellar is fucking DARK. You wanna say it has a "dark" sentimentality to it then I'll give you that but comparing this to anything Spielberg has ever done? No. It's closer to Kubrick, imo.
I fucking loved the score and that punctuated the darkness throughout. If the shit had been directed by Spielberg then you would have had john Williams' sappy score crescendoing every fucking 30 seconds. That was not the case here. Yes, I understand SS was attached to the project way back but that does not mean Nolan worked directly off of SS' template.
The sound design was fucking epic and as loud as it was it did not overpower the dialogue scenes. I'm thinking theaters are fucking with the volume controls or something. Also, that big name star to make appearance, who was never listed in the promotional credits or seen in the trailers, was a nice touch, and had a major role to play.
I will be seeing it again in the real IMAX but I don't know when.

That's what I'm saying. I'm amazed Nolan, even with his clout, got them to dig out the mothballed projectors and make prints, even in small quantities. I'd like to think some people will go out of their way actually see it on film, but I'm not foolish enough to think 99% of the population will care either way.

Can someone who has seen this answer me this? Is it anyway near as BORING as the trailers make it out to be? My partner wants to see it, but it just looks interminably DULL to me.

I just watched trailer 3 again, and it's mostly creeping panning shots across various vistas and Matthew M doing his slow-talk drawl.

Cuz there is a UK trailer 3 too....
I fucking love trailer 3. Especially that music that won't be in the movie but it fits it VERY well.

9.2 on IMDB? Come on. It can't be that good.
I just read the plot at wiki and it sounds like a complicated but good story. Not sure if I will go to the theater but I likely will get it on BD.

Okay just got back from a 'LieMax' screening.
I want to let this film digest a bit before I give a full review but my initial impressions...
-Visually arresting.
-Edge of your seat entertainment.
-Gaping plot holes if you think too hard.
-Last 30 minutes had my eyes rolling like no tomorrow, and I heard audible laughs in the theatre.
This is classic Nolan. I'd recommend it, but don't expect a masterpiece.

Re: Interstellar (Nolan, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
I was reminded of 2001 multiple times during the viewing, definitely more Kubrick than Spielberg. While I enjoyed it, I found it fairly predictable, at least from the "big picture" perspective.
Spoiler:
Definitely need another viewing with a more informed perspective to glean some of the details, I remember thinking the same thing after I'd first seen Inception.

Now that we're posting spoilers, can I mention how we no longer need a remake to The Black Hole?
Once they introduced that plot point of the black hole, I knew Coop was going into it.
