^ I can live with that too. That's why I like Nolan, his puzzle films trickle the mind. They might not end-up creating a coherent image, but then again that's his point to keep you guessing

OK. You asked:
There is no food anywhere, apparently just corn (man can live on meat and fish alone btw) after all okra just went obsolete ffs, and this problem is so bad that apparently NASA became a military organization that fricking bombed and killed people to thin the need for corn, yet mid-west farmers just live their lives farming corn and the fields are not protected by anyone (oh yeah, the economy so bad armies are gone) and a mass of crazed hungry people haven't come and taken it all, or you know enough to survive.

Funny thing is that if Nolan had avoided all the convoluted nonsense he could have set the movie up a billion times better. Former astronaut Cooper is asked to pilot a mission through a wormhole, apparently opened by a friendly alien species
He just crams a ton of shit into his movies. You either have fun with what he's doing, or pick it apart along the way, unfortunately in your case it seems like he gave just enough detail to hang himself

Nolan is a class act:

My films are always held to a weirdly high standard for those issues that isn’t applied to everybody else’s films—which I’m fine with.

Re: Interstellar (Nolan, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
Not a Nolan fan at all. I enjoyed Batman Begins a fair bit but think everything else is various levels of crap.
That said, I enjoyed Interstellar while I was watching it just for the spectacle, music and the "where the hell is this going" angle. Matthew McConaughey was pretty great, and had a few very emotionally affecting scenes.
But boy......this is a dumb, dumb, dumb movie. So many things make no sense whatsoever. Johhnysd's post sums up several of them nicely. Nolan is obviously reaching for 2001 here but the problem is he doesn't have a single original thought in his head and is incapable of arranging his "borrowed" ideas in a clear and cogent way. His story and characters are also much too literal, all those stupid on-the-nose monologues about love and evil or some such bullshit. Nobody needed to hear any of that.
2001 was great because it had one high-concept theme and everything in the film directly supported that theme visually as played out over 2 1/2 hours and maybe 6 or 7 pages of dialogue. I think Nolan needs to watch it again.

It didn't hold your hand and try to explain everything. Except for Tarkovsky's Solaris, which I like about the same, nothing else comes close to it.

I generally enjoy Nolan's films, with The Prestige and Batman Begins being my favorites. I would love to see him work on a more 'grounded to reality' script for a change though.

I agree. I am a huge Nolan fan however I rarely defend the guy if someone says they don't care for his style of filmmaking.
The Prestige and Memento were mind blowing experiences for me and he brought the Batman franchise back from the dead. But after viewing this film, i'm just growing tired of it. Let's see what else he can do, rather then just trying to top himself with every movie.

Kubrick's film was one with almost no dialogue which asked you to do a lot of work to figure it out and could be considered obfuscating, relying on symbolism. Nolan explains what he explained while he's explaining it. He's so stylistically different, a filmmaker who's movies are extremely literal and verbose. Love or hate either one, they're at opposite end of the storytelling spectrum.

I really enjoyed the film. I hope to see it again before it leaves IMAX as even though it was a somewhat straight forward film (although I do have a ton of questions), there was a lot to take in and I think I'll appreciate it even more with multiple viewings. I'd put it just a hair ahead of The Prestige as my favourite Nolan film.

anybody know why the imax scenes looks so much sharper than the non imax ones? was the same in his other movies, is it cause its shot on film or what? i know imax cameras are better but it's pretty distracting when it switches

I had a perfect seat for Interstellar in IMAX today. My local IMAX theater is often loud, but it's usually a good, clean and calibrated loud. Holy shit - That movie was too loud. But I guess rockets are unbearably loud, too.
I enjoyed the hell out of most of the movie. Will definitely watch it again down the road.
It looked amazing.

The film itself is a different beast from 35mm. It just is better at getting the image. The whole film was shot on film. Even the video messages seen in there.

As for the movie itself, I liked it, but I'm not sure I loved it. It went from a somewhat legitimately grounded movie based on science, to completely whacked out shit about 5th dimensions and shit at the end. Just got a little too weird for my liking. It did look phenomenal, though. I thought the space stuff was better than Gravity in most parts.

Him going into the tesseract at the end was my favorite part of the movie
Floating in complete blackness being hit by whatever that shit was then sliding into the dimensions
Such an awesome wtf is happening scene

Re: Interstellar (Nolan, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
Just saw this today in IMAX. I'm wrecked. A visual and emotional rollercoaster thrill-ride. I never wanted it to end. Yes, there are a few scientific inaccuracies, who cares? If I eliminated sci-fi down to films with no inaccuracies, I'd have nothing to watch. I loved the visuals and the music, though (like others have said) there were times when I strained to hear the dialogue.
I've managed to avoid any info on the movie at all, I only knew that the Earth was dying and astronauts were sent out to colonize. Everything else, including the cast list, was a total surprise. I didn't even realize that was Ellen Burstyn until the credits rolled! I thought T.A.R.S. sounded a lot like James Marsden, but turned out to be this guy:

Though a little Kubrickian, I'd say it was a bit more Contact than 2001 (except this time, I loved McConaughey). Can't wait for the blu-ray. I want to see it again... now!

Saw it a second time this time on a regular screen with my mom. We both had trouble hearing the dialogue. Is the reason for low voices so the audience can pay closer attention to the important dialogue? They still should've given a warning on the low audio we would've never gone and waited till the blu-Ray

No. I think the film has some issues w/ the music volume. A bit too loud. Otherwise... the dialogue throughout is fine until the it gets covered by the music too strongly in bit parts.

Loved the movie. Thought it was awesome and different. but.... man was it more depressing than i thought. Great film and deserves an oscar for something on there.
Also, i saw it in IMAX(fake IMAX) but man it almost just feels like they just dont do anything different with the sound but just turning up the volume...

I saw it in IMAX, all the dialogue was clear from what I recall, the only time I remember it being covered up was while TARS was talking one time during a launch.
