Only a little over 4 hours for what looks to be one of the most boring, uneventful shows in recent memory. As always, I hope they play clips for each of the acting nominees when they're introduced.

Since my favorite movie, Nightcrawler, isn't a BP nominee, I'm not really puling for anything, except I would like to see Whiplash take home multiple awards. I hope we actually get a big surprise winner in one of the major categories. Something along the lines of when Soderbergh won for Traffic or when The Pianist surprised everyone with Actor and Director wins.

I'm thinking something like Bradley Cooper winning Best Actor, and maybe Whiplash taking at least 3 of 5 of its categories.

Hard to believe Whiplash isn't the favorite for best picture. It's Birdman versus Boyhood which will make for the least impressive best picture winner since Crash won.

Michael Keaton gave the third or fourth best performance .. in his own film yet he's 50/50 for best actor.

I thought Keaton originally, but Redmayne has been gaining a lot of momentum and generally the showiest performance usually wins and Redmayne playing a real life person with a major physical disability wins that hands down.

I'm hoping for a Boyhood or Whiplash win, but pretty much anything here is game for me. I'll be a little let down if it's Birdman, but I can understand why that one would have such an edge.

What will kill me is if American Sniper wins. I don't give a damn about the politics. It wasn't a good movie. Asserting that it won't win because it's too conservative for Hollywood is exasperating. Do we really think American Sniper was better than Boyhood, Whiplash, Birdman, Imitation Game, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and The Theory of Everything? You don't have to like everything on that list, but there's no way American Sniper was stronger than every single one of those. At least in my mind.

On another note, since my favorite animated feature, The Lego Movie, was completely snubbed from the Oscars (seriously?), my vote goes to the movies on the list I haven't actually watched: The Tale of Princess Kaguya, and Song of the Sea. I'm amazed that the critics are giving Big Hero 6 so much edge. That movie's script was a trainwreck of the highest extent. I found How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Boxtrolls both to be competent animated features, but neither have near the creative depth of the usual Ghibli movie, or even the guys who do movies like Kells and Song of the Sea.

I'm don't care as much about the other nominees. I'd give Mr. Turner the edge for cinematography, but it won't win. I wouldn't mind a win from Interstellar's OST, and I'd like Whiplash to get best adapted screenplay. The only other two movies from 2014 I really loved were The Babadook and Into the Woods, which are both very shy of nominations, so there's not much else for me to say.

That's it.

But I'm just a lowly, poorly studied 19 year old doing no more than stating my opinions for the time being. I'll deliberate if anyone wants to argue them.

Also, I can't help but chuckle-facepalm at how much they're playing the "Everything is Awesome" song from the Lego Movie.

Oh, right, almost forgot about that one. It was a very beautiful examination of life - and he lived through the movies! Hence the title. Not sure why they snubbed that, but I haven't seen any of the others on the list, so I can't really argue.

Let's not forget that Ebert was really pissed-off when Hoop Dreams (one of his favorite films) was snubbed for Best Documentary. The academy must really have it in for Roger.
