I do think that Captain America: Winter Soldier & Iron Man 1 are the best MCU flicks.

It kinda bothered me that they completely glossed over the ending to Iron Man 3. I mean, we all knew Iron Man would be back, but they couldn't even put in a line of dialogue about it? Maybe it ended up on the cutting room floor...

Not only did he jump right back out, but he charged toward the flying city with Widow on his back. Not sure how anyone could have missed all that.

Right, but then that's the last you see of him. Hell, even Black Widow made it back to the city faster than Hulk. Where the hell was he?

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Whedon, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

I think this was better than the first... I think the first has a kind of nostalgia type factor because it was "different" in that it hadn't been done before. Sure this was completely over the top but that's what I was hoping and expecting. Biggest surprise for me was Scarlet Witch. I agree with Hokey. I found Elizabeth Olsen terrific as well and hope to see more of her as SW in future movies. Maybe marvel could work something out with Fox and do House of M on the big screen? I know not going to happen but I can hope.

Not a perfect movie at all but a really good comic book on film and I think the new things worked better than I expected.

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Whedon, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Olsen was great and was definitely one of the highlights in the movie. I also hope we see her character in more movies. Vision, and Hulk vs Hulkbuster were also very well done.

I liked it, but I think I like the first one better. I thought Ultron was cool and Spader delivered some great lines. Maybe I was sitting too close, but I thought the action was a little too Bayish (hectic). Lots of flashy editing and some of it was hard to watch and follow. It wasn't Bourne/Quantum of Solace shakey-cam, but it just had a busy look to it.

I saw a digital presentation and the movie looked a little drab. But it was still entertaining and it's still much better than many of the other Marvel entries. I was a bit disappointed in
Spoiler:
Ultron not being as big of a bad ass that the trailers made him out to be. I agree with some that I thought he'd be more threatening. I also was hoping to see a Hulk vs Ultron battle, but all we got was one uppercut from the Hulk.

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Whedon, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Well, I just got a report from my 15 year old daughter - she LOVED Age Of Ultron.

She went so far as to say that it was better than the first Avengers movie. High praise since that is one of her all time favorite movies.

As for me, I'm going to see it tomorrow morning (with my family - including my daughter who wants to see it again), so I'll be able to comment tomorrow afternoon. I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Whedon, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Just getting back. Overall I liked it but I didn't love it. Something just felt off about certain things. Like someone else said it felt like a $250 million dollar TV episode. It looked really ugly, felt kind of bloated and I honestly think their wasn't really a plot in it. And the ending with the Avengers B team assembling fell flat.

On the positive side I really liked the new additions. I thought Bettany was great as the Vision and Olsen was good as Scarlett Witch. Would have liked to have seen more of his powers though. Quicksilver was kind of uninteresting though and Linda Caredellini's cameo was cool.

Id probably give it about a 3.5/5. It's not great but it is entertaining. The first Avengers kind of knew it's role of being a fun popcorn movie this one just feels bloated and not as interesting.

On another note what was with the Hulk/Iron Man fight? With all the buildings that were destroyed all I could think about was why doesn't Iron Man take the fight to a field or something? Doesn't he care about all the collateral damage that he was causing? Not very super hero like.

He took lessons from Man of Steel. #amirite

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Whedon, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Saw it today and really liked it. I'm not sure if I like it better than the first Avengers movie, but both are A+ superhero movies in my book. They do a good job of balancing the different characters. In this one, I really liked the Hulk/Widow relationship and I was glad they gave Hawkeye more prominence in this one.

My one dislike -- and I'm not even sure if it was a dislike; I still need to digest -- is that I thought Ultron was too wry and sardonic. I think I would have preferred a colder Ultron.

And a minor dislike -- we should have gotten a shot of Cap, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch together. I wants me my fan service!

My favorite blink-and-you'll-miss-it Easter Egg: In the Cap Flashbacks, you could see a band in the background, and in one shot, you see the name of the band written on the drum kit: the Roy Thomas Players.

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Whedon, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

I saw this earlier tonight and loved it.

I still think Winter Soldier and GotG are 1 and 1A for me. They are so different it is hard to choose between them and I think this one is a notch below GotG but way better than the first Avengers.

I went with the same 3 other people I always go to movies with, my wife and a friend and his wife. None of them loved it. My wife and friend thought it was good but not great and my friend’s wife did not like it.
I’m huge comic nerd though, and I wonder how much that changed my perspective.
Spoiler:
I know my wife leaned over to me when SW and QS turned on Ultron and said, “did you know they were good guys?”
I also think the introduction of Vision might have been confusing for her since she went into this with no knowledge he was there or any back story for him. These are things as a geek I take for granted, but why should John Q Public have any idea or expectation for Vision. I wonder if we are getting into a zone in comic movies where the nerds have everyone at a disadvantage, which could explain some of the bad reviews.

I am typically pretty critical of comic book movies; I’m actually usually way harder on them than my wife and friends because I want to be honest and not only like it because it is my childhood on film. With all that said, I really liked this movie.

So here's something I saw elsewhere on the internet. We've seen four of the six infinity gems so far: The Tesseract, the Aether, the Orb, and the Scepter.

T _ A _ OS

I'm guessing phase 3 will see some sort of H object and some sort of N object

It was alright for me. Not nearly as fun as the first one and yet not as bleak and emotional as I was expecting either. Didn't think an endless stream of easily destructible robots made that compelling a villian and the floating city was too preposterous a predicament to really feel like jeopardy. 3 1/2 Stars for me.

Orb and Scepter are such a stretch. Seems pretty stupid to me.

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Whedon, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Jesus, this was one busy movie. You could tell there must've been huge chunks taken out of some parts. Just really hard to follow sometimes. Both my wife and I agreed we'll have to watch this again.

I liked it for the most part. Definitely not one of my favorite MCU films.

This bothered me like crazy though:
Spoiler:
Where was Falcon doing the end battle?! Everyone else shows up, and this would've been a perfect time to have him come in and contribute. He doesn't need to do much - just fly around the helicarrier and shoot drones. Instead he has a couple lines at the party, then swoops in at the very end. Such a wasted opportunity.

I liked it very much, although the proposed lineup for the "next" Avengers doesn't thrill me all that much. Cheatle's War Machine is dull and wimpy. The Vision, is a stuffy self-righteous character (although was fine in this movie). These movies need RDjr and Iron Man. Once he's out, for whatever reason, they are going to take a serious hit IMO... but that won't be for awhile I guess.

He tried. In fact, he explicitly said something like, "now let's get you somewhere less populated" and tried to fly Hulk away. Hulk broke free.

He saved the folks on the elevator, and he deliberately found an unoccupied skyscraper to try to end the fight. I'm not sure the "doesn't care about collateral damage" complaint is a fair one.

Yeah. Hulk wouldn't let him. Tony made it a priority till Hulk just really needed to be taken down, damage or no damage to the area.

I liked how it was called Veronica. Betty and Veronica, heh.

But he only said that after he had already destroyed a whole bunch of buildings and treated it like an after thought. If we learned anything from the Man of Steel thread its that every superhero should immediately take the super powered being to an empty field.

Before he destroyed the skyscraper, he also made a comment to Jarvis about "How quickly can we buy this building?"

Yeah, I think I've read that theory before somewhere...

It's probably a given that one of the other two Infinity Stones will show up in Doctor Strange. Trying to think of Strange-related that would start with an H or an N...

Seem like Tony wanted to contain the situation as fast as possible only to learn that it wasn't going to go clean.

He contains Banner, that is overcome. Tries to take him down, that fails. Wants to take him away and Hulk won't let him. Tony's last choice was to just do a last effort with crashing him down. Only to have it be a dazed and confused Hulk to be knocked out.
