I believe it might be the 35mm print. I'm gonna try.

Nothing, we go all the time. $5 matinee tickets and $3 popcorn bucket refill.

So I love popcorn and almost always buy some when I see a movie, but how do you handle the refills? I think I've left the theater in the middle of a movie only once or twice in my life and it was because I had to pee so bad I thought I was going to burst. Why would I want to miss part of something I'm paying to see? Or is the strategy to go with someone who doesn't care about missing a few minutes and make them go?

Either there's a lull during the second act or just grab a refill when the movie's over and take it home.

For me it's poor quality of movies. There's very little worth seeing these days.

At the moment, nothing. I live near a few repertory theaters, with great summer programming, so I'm going to two double features a week.

When I was younger and in college, I usually would try to get together with friends to catch a movie. But, that sort of dried up once we all got older and some of them got married and moved farther away.

I have a buddy who I catch a flick with every now and then, but he's married and busy most of the time, so I can't wait around for him. So 9 times out of 10, I will just catch what I want by myself. Doesn't bother me in the slightest bit. I'm able to see much more during my free time than trying to arrange a get together, which are a pain in the ass.

I remember single-screen theaters in the South Bronx in the 1970s where you could hear fire trucks and police sirens from outside the theater.

I buy it before the movie starts?

I'm talking about the carmike bucket that lets you get a huge bucket of popcorn for $3 and change throughout the year.

Conflicting work schedules and a 5-year-old are the biggest hurdles. The only films we tend to see theatrically are the ones all three of us can watch, typically Disney/Pixar.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

I just prefer the convenience of watching at home. There are so many movies and series that I have on my "to watch" list, that I can easily wait for most new movies to be released on home video or streaming sites. I have plenty of other stuff to watch in the meantime.

The only movies I've seen in a theater this year are Star Wars, Captain America, and Star Trek. I wasn't planning on going to Star Trek, but a friend called me up and talked me into it.

There's even a nice new theater near me--it has reserved seating, big comfy, cushy, reclining seats, and pretty courteous audiences. Still, I generally prefer to watch stuff at home.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

I caught X-Men: Apocalypse for a $2.50 matinee at the cheap seats today and was surprised to see a little commercial right before the movie from one of the actresses thanking people for going to the movies.

It's time and money. If I really want to see it, I go for it. And if I mostly want to see it, I might go but I'll wait. I don't "blind buy" theatrical releases as much as I used to, and usually spend my time and money on a sure thing instead. But opening night doesn't matter to me, anymore. We don't do midnight shows anymore, either, now that we have little kids. Matinees on my day off or evening shows in the early part of the week when babysitters are more available and tickets are more affordable work for us.

The only thing all of the above was thrown out the window for recently was Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Day one, twice.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

I was super-broke a few months ago and went to see the Point Break remake at the dollar theater. Yes, I did really want to see it sometime (though it was a turd). I was surprised that's how I used to watch movies all the time. So spoiled by oversized stadium seats and overall a/v.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

Despite everything that there is to hate about the theater-going experience, I love seeing movies in the theater.

Why don't I do it more?

Expensive tickets and snacks.
I'm spoiled being able to start and stop movies at home.
The overall quality of movies is fucking disappointing.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

I literally live less than a mile from a brand-new (opened in 2015) Cinemark and I still go about once a month because I can't stand all the talking, texting, and what I'll politely refer to as "loud eating" that goes on in the theater. Yeah, I'm a cranky old man, but I still swear that people had more respect for both those around them and the actual presentation when I was a kid.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

I work a highly stressful job 50+ hours per week. I must admit that I'm usually too tired on the weekends to make an effort.....although I do go at least once a month (but would like to go more).

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

I picked cost and being picky about what I see, which to me go hand in hand. If money wasn't a factor I would see a ton of movies in the theater instead of just Star Wars and Marvel movies.

Now that we have a Dolby Cinema @ AMC and other nice AMC theaters in the area, crowds don't bother me anymore since I buy tickets online and the recliners with tiered seating give me lots of personal space.

I have a good home theater setup, but nothing beats the Dolby Cinema experience.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

Two kids under 12. Pretty much the only reason. More date nights would be fantastic. I don't mind the cost, to an extent(I don't do 3D and don't buy overpriced popcorn, or concessions).

Well that and lack of movies I want to see. I prefer the big blockbusters for my dollar(I rent the dramas and comedies) and there's been a lack of decent ones, IMO, the past year or so.

I did actually try to take my kid to Zootopia last week, there was a free movie in the park thing. Beautiful night, and just as movie was about to start, giant windstorm blew through knocking down the screen and sending everyone running for cover. I wont be doing that again.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

My wife and I just took both of our sons, aged 1 and 3 (turning 4 on Sunday), to their first ever movie this afternoon. We went to see Finding Dory at a 1:55pm showing and there were about 20 people there, mostly families with little kids like ours. I'll be completely honest and say that nothing bad happened at all. No loud talking, texting, or any disturbances really from anyone.

It actually really made me proud when my son shushed me right when the Disney fireworks logo came on the screen and said, "Daddy, it's movie time now. Please be quiet." I am so saving these tickets stubs for a future scrapbook.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

I voted poor theater environment (aka Assholes with Cellphones)

It just happened over the weekend when I took my wife to see Bourne. Lady in front of my takes out her phone (screen fully lit) and starts checking email. I've just about reached my breaking point with this, so I lean forward and said "turn off your phone, please." I must have startled her, because she flinched and then put away her phone (for the duration of the movie, no less). I am one more cell phone away from grabbing it and throwing it to the front of the theater. Maybe the theater should designate the last 2 rows for dumb fucks who can't stay off their phones for 90 minutes.

Re: What keeps you from going to the movie theater or going more often?

Many of the reasons listed. With two kids and both of us working full time, it's more of a time than money issue. On top of that, we have a 3D projector w/ a 135 inch screen and a 7.2 audio set up at home, so waiting a few months until a movie hits blu ray isn't really a big deal to us.
