Depends on the content too, of course. Do you have any examples?

US screenings of first run Anime features.
http://www.fathomevents.com/event/sw...line-the-movie

Or any first run MST3K?

Just throwing that out here.

That's a good question. Would this count as a valid answer?

http://www.fathomevents.com/event/th...e-info/details

Because Fathom is not available everywhere.

The anime you linked says it's a TV series.

Likewise, isn't MST3K a TV series? (I don't know anything about MST3K.) Or for some of their reunion stuff, it's still not a feature film, right?

I believe Fathom has also premiered a few of the Pokemon theatrical releases.

I would consider that a theatrical release, although it is only one night, it will be playing in multiple theatres across the nation.

So, it's just a matter of scale? Where do you cut it off? More than 1 theater? More than 10 theaters?

Yes, but Tarantino made a WWII movie! What to do then? Not only that, it featured Hitler so maybe it was on people's minds from an earlier question. Anyway, that was my thinking for why I didn't slam SPR. Clearly my thinking was wrong.

Not so much scale, but intent. Festival screenings are generally where films play before their release, hoping to gain reviews, perhaps even awards that will help the marketing of the film. Many times, a movie is at the festival looking for a distributer.

I don't think playing at a festival like TIFF is the film's release, it's working on the film's promotion.

Re: Ba-Ba-Black Sheep: Movie Bad Guys (Reverse) SHEEP Game

A good example of the Fathom thing might be the release of the Batman "The Killing Joke" animated movie. It was a direct to home video release, but they decided to screen it theatrically via Fathom events for 2 nights (was supposed to be 1, but expanded due to demand) before it came out on home video (but was actually released on digital platforms on the same day).

Re: Ba-Ba-Black Sheep: Movie Bad Guys (Reverse) SHEEP Game

A movie (or anything else) being screened in even 100 theaters is not the same thing as a theatrical release.

We all know what a theatrical release is. Even if it is in just two theaters, the movie is "released" to open on a particular day. It stays in the theater for at least a week and has multiple daily showings that are open to the public ticket buyers.

Now people have to argue about what a theatrical release is.

Another question that has been asked before. Multiple times in fact. Every time, there was the same runaway answer. Sheep better not let me down now!

I thought Blofeld was going to be the runaway winner. He was excluded from the question in the recent Bond game.
