IMDb is shutting down their message board
IMPORTANT: IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.

Terrible, archaic message boards. They should have just updated them but I won't really miss them other than to see other people's questions or thoughts on movies that didn't warrant a full review.

There are a lot of trolls and conspiracy theorists and obsessive types, but the forums for certain older films were great. The Commando thread is amazing.

God, I remember the times when "User Comments" was used to communicate with others there

They were a cesspool of humanity, but I still found useful info in there almost every time I looked. Wish they'd just lock them and not actually delete all the info there already,

That's terrible. I've posted a lot of questions and useful information there. Granted, my questions usually don't get answered, but I've never seen anything that would compel them to close this feature down.

The boards were a good way to get rumors, news, and information from early screenings. Some occasional interesting analysis could be found there, too.
Truth be told, I absolutely despise our move away from message boards to social networks like facebook and twitter. As high as the bullshit-to-useful information ratio was on the IMDB boards, it's off the charts on facebook and twitter. That, and it's infinitely more difficult to find specific bits of information on facebook and twitter. If I'm looking for a rumor about a certain movie, I can just go to its IMDB page and scan its board for a minute or two and see if what I need is there. I could spend literally hours sifting through tweets and facebook statuses looking for the same thing.

I stopped reading the IMDb boards when they became impossible to follow for popular movies. I've looked at them maybe a couple dozen times since the last 10 years, if that.

Can we get rid of Yahoo!'s message board next?

Next Up: Youtube! Seriously. If I were meeting with an alien, and trying to express the absolute lowest level of modern society, I would direct them to Youtube comments. I can't think of any better example of the worst society has to offer.

But I didn't mind IMDb that much. Sure every freaking film has the obligatory "Worst Movie Ever?" topic along with annoying posters that acted like they were smarter than everyone else, but there were a lot of insightful discussions about many classic and popular films.
I honestly don't know where else to go to read current discussions about movies older than 9 months.

There are plenty of morons and I rarely found deep discussions but for quick questions the pages delivered more often than not.

Does this mean the user reviews featured on the main page for a movie is gone too?

The popular forums are unreadable, troll-haven garbage. But obscure, classic, and/or foreign flicks have some really nice discussion, so overall I think this is disappointing.

This is very disappointing as it was a great resource for discussions of films that are older/less popular/more obscure. I would always check out the boards for movies I have just seen and have gotten so much valuable information from the discussions. There is no other place like it on the web and it is a huge loss for me.
There is a petition, which I just signed, if anyone is interested:
