Kimmel was the best host in a long long time. I though the tour bus bit was going to be an Epic fail, but it was pretty funny, I liked the dude kissing all the actresses hands. I bet you their publicists were handing out a lot of purell at the commercial break.
The parachutes were a good bit as well.

So do the cards just say the name of the winner and the movie it is for? Maybe they need to print which award it is for on the card itself, not just on the envelope.

The envelope has the category on it, but nothing else, apparently.
edit: here's a really large pic of Warren holding the envelope. I don't think any of the presenters look that closely at the envelope before opening them up.

It is a very funny bit, but there is a point where you milk a joke too much in one show. The beginning was very funny when Kimmel was raggin on Damon even calling him a dumbass at one point. Let it go there, as comedy is all about timing and you don't want to go to the well too many times with it. As I said, it was as bad as Uma/Oprah (simply because that was never funny from the start), but it was getting there by the end of the night for me.

Spoiler:
From the L.A. Times article :
PwC's representatives were Brian Cullinan, a partner at the firm — and, according to his bio on the company's website, a Matt Damon lookalike — and Martha Ruiz, the second woman to serve as a PwC Oscars tabulator.

The flagship award that serves as the grand finale on the biggest award show in the world was announced incorrectly and wasn't caught until the improperly announced winner was well into their thank you speeches. This was a blunder of epic proportions. It was embarrassing for many layers of people involved and is exacerbated by how much the Oscars tout the process that is in place to prevent something like this from happening in the first place. Short of people losing their lives for some reason during the broadcast, it's hard to imagine anything that would be a bigger deal.

I was hoping for Kubo, but really liked Zootopia as well. I thought both plus Moana were better than the not-nominated Finding Dory.

I guess I need to revisit it. I wasn't very enamored with it when I saw it.

Makes total sense how it happened.

Zootopia was more topical and well liked, so it was likely going to win regardless.

The issue is that, at it's core, it was a pretty small mistake - the card did say La La Land, and while Warren shouldn't have shown it to Faye without saying "I don't think this is the right card" , all she did was looked at it, saw a movie title and said it out loud.
Makes total sense how it happened.

I agree the mistake was not the fault of the presenters. The presenters should be treated as if they won't have any critical thinking skills in the moment and can't read anything smaller than a 28pt font. The epic failure is in the fact that the process should never allow for things to get to the point of the presenters being faced with the situation Beatty and Dunaway were in. From the time they walked out on stage to the time the envelope was opened, there was ample time for those responsible to double-check that they had the right envelope and correct it. There was plenty of time while the clips of the nominees were being played to go out and give Beatty the right envelope and only the theater audience would have even known. No one watching the broadcast would have been the wiser. What that means is, no one realized it or even checked until the envelope had been opened and the wrong winner was announced. That's a major failure of the process that should be in place for the single most important moment of the year for the Academy.
What a collossal fuck-up this was by two people who had ONE JOB - to hand out 24 envelopes in correct order. There's no excuse: it's not like it was the wrong card in the right envelope --we now see Best Actress in tiny print on Beatty's envelope. Such a shame and such a blot on the Oscars for years to come. PwC really owns all the blame here.

It would be funny if online retailer sent everyone who ordered Moonlight on DVD and blu-ray a copy of La La Land instead.
