Crap. This would be the perfect day to break open my first 4K disc, but I still need a player.

Sorry to hear that.
FWIW, the 4K disc of Alien is superb and an absolute steal at 15 bucks.

Have you decided on a player yet?
I have an Oppo but have heard Panasonic's top-of-the-line model is excellent too.
Panasonic's disc players have always done well with me.

Thanks! I’ll be honest and say that I’m not much of a “AV must be as good as possible” guy. When watching a film, I’ll sometimes grab the DVD even if the BD is near. I appreciate the upgrades, but the story is 99% of my enjoyment.

I’m only in the 4K arena because the TVs are so cheap and the discs/digital that are the same price as BD. I’ll likely just go the cheap route and get an Xbox One as my player.

Same here.
FWIW, I think the first 2 Alien films (in spite of being in different genres) are two of the best films ever made.
I'm a huge fan.

Unfortunately for my bank account, I'm one of those guys.
Luckily I don't have a lot of bills anymore (retired).

If you haven't seen the latest BD release, you really should...the AV is terrific.

I hear ya there...more than anything, the STORY rules.
IMO, if the content isn't up to snuff, I hit the EJECT Button damn quick regardless of how good the AV is.

Hurry up and join the Party; it's great out here!

Alien is, in my opinion, a nearly perfect film. I don't have a 4K player yet, but I do plan on picking up the 4K disc at some point.

Fathom/Fox/TCM is showing this on the big screen (I would assume the new 4K DCP) October. 13, 15 and 16

Looking forward to that!

A few weeks ago, I got to see Alien during a Double Feature at a local theater. So awesome to see it on a big screen.

Watched a few and will watch the others soon.

Fired up the UHD disk last night and really enjoyed it.
The film hasn't lost its power one bit.
One thing that did pop out at me last night is just how important the ambient sound ADDs to the movie.
All those buzzes, beeps, creaks, etc. really gives the illusion of being there on the Nostromo.
Also, Ripley's dash to get on the shuttle in the final act reminds me quite a bit of her doing the same at Hadleys Hope in Cameron's Aliens.
Hadn't strongly stood out to me before.

Oh god, no ... that movie traumatized me as a child. To this day I cannot stand ventriloquist dummies.

I've told this story before: Back when I saw it for the first time in the theater, I was so immersed, I forget I had bought a large Coke. Never touched it.

The 4k blu-ray looks great.

Is it worth $7 on Amazon streaming? Seems to be the only place I can find it here.

FYI, the director’s cut stinks everyone. Let’s try and forget it.
