Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024, D: Arbi / Fallah)
When Sony says Bad Boys for Life, the studio means for life.
Just as Sony readies for the Friday release of the third installment of the action franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, it is making moves to develop a fourth entry, thus extending even further the sporadic buddy cop movie series that began in 1995.
Chris Bremner, who worked on Bad Boys for Life, has been tapped to pen the script, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Smith and Lawrence are, of course, expected to return and the plan is there for not to have the same time lag between Bad Boys II and Bad Boys for Life. The time lag was due to several factors, such as spiraling budgetary costs, but also about finding the right story.
The sequel had several fits and stops in recent years, with different writers and directors coming and going. The movie’s final writing credits include Joe Carnahan and Peter Craig receiving "story by" credit and sharing "screenplay by" credit with Bremner.
The movie has been garnering quite positive reviews and, despite the lines of “One last time” in the trailer, leaves plenty of room for a sequel by the end.
Bremner's schedule is heating up as he is also writing National Treasure 3 for Disney, among other projects. That project is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who is also the producer behind Bad Boys for Life. He is repped by Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.

Eh, maybe I'll wait and start with Bad Boys 4.

Bad Boys 4 had been in active development, and Smith received 40 pages of the script before the Oscars incident, according to our sources. Now there will be a ... pause ... in work as things play out, we've been told.

I have the fondest memories watching the original when I was a teen.
I hope Will Smith's career isn't "cancelled" (ugh I hate that word).
Bad Boys for Life structured itself like a Fast and Furious movie. They sorta reinvented the franchise with it. It was missing the "Bayhem", but was still fun to watch. There were some other feelings missing that only Michael Bay can get out of me.
I'm okay with these as long as they keep them good.

Although Will Smith has grown a lot as an actor Bad Boys will always remain my favorite Will Smith movie. It's the same thing with George Clooney, he can make Michael Claytons and Syrianas until the end of time, From Dusk Till Dawn will remain my number one.

Without Will Smith you don't really have Bad Boys let's be realistic. He and Martin have chemistry you not going to find in two other comedians. Might as well cancel it now or reboot it.

It doesn't mean it's dead. Sony probably wants to wait until the bad press blows over. My guess is they re-visit this later in 2022 or early 2023.
Hell they waited 18 years to do Bad Boys for Life. This is nothing.

They won’t cancel this. I’m sure they’re just laying low for a little while until this all blows over, then they’ll be right back to it.

They'll probably reference the attack into the plot and bring Chris Rock on board with a not insubstantial paycheck for an extended cameo to make it "all okay"

Will Smith is a dick, but they are still making movies with even bigger ones, so after a while the shitstorm will blow over.

I've never really cared for Will Smith as an actor, except for the Bad Boys movies.

It’s now official. Same directors as Bad Boys for Life.

I wasn’t terribly impressed with BB3 but I’ll always give them a shot. Let’s just hope Mike and Marcus don’t spend the entire movie arguing with each other. The characters work best when they’re goofy and playing off each other, not when they’re angry and bitter.

Sony Pictures confirmed that the untitled sequel is in early pre-production with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returning to direct from a script by Chris Bremner. The filmmakers directed 2020’s “Bad Boys for Life,” which reunited Smith and Lawrence 25 years after the first “Bad Boys” film was released in 1995. Shortly after the threequel hit theaters, Sony announced that a fourth “Bad Boys” film was in development, and “Bad Boys for Life” went on to earn $426.5 million at the worldwide box office, as one of the last pre-pandemic era blockbusters.

I thought Bad Boys 4 Life was a solid follow up after such a long gap between movies. Hell, I have the 4K disc. Smith and Lawrence though much older now still had good chemistry. Interesting how it was released just before the pandemic and did pretty well.
Since this is in "Pre-Production" it's probably not going to film until later this year, so I guess 2024 will probably be it's target date. I'm looking forward to probably once last adventure with these guys.

Wait, are these the two palookas that FUBAR’d Batgirl? We’ll see about this one.
Also, I’m betting they wish they hadn’t used that title for the last movie when Bad Boys 4 Life seems obvious now.

But it was not so much a hit because of the film itself (it sucked) but because people weren't yet burnt out on legacy sequels. Let's face it, Bad Boys 4 Life was no Top Gun: Maverick (or even the equally excellent, albeit underperforming, Blade Runner 2049).
