Why? I realize Hulu is supposedly where the more adult content goes, but NM is PG13 and they have PG-13 stuff there. Just filter it from the kids accounts like all the other PG-13 and up content. I can't see it as much worse than, say, Runaways.

Trolls is out now. I completely forgot that it's 20 bucks for a rental, I think I was spoiled by the early releases of things like Onward and Sonic (I realize they had theatrical releases) for 20.

I've heard speculation that now that VOD is a viable option, Disney may not rule out releasing Mulan that way after all. Might as well try to make some money. Their theme parks alone are losing $30 million a day. Yikes.

I'm not sure it paid off. I mean, it did much better than I thought, but I'm sure they thought the opening day haul sans virus would've been much bigger, and it's kind of hard to compare to other VOD releases that opened in theaters. But if it means more day and date release, I'm all for it.

That is what I was wondering about. Were they sitting on some already-cut trailers to relase alongside Bond 25 or Quiet Place 2, or were they still in process of being cut. And was that something that an editor could do from home?

That's what I was thinking as well. Of course the studio is going to spin it as a win but I'm really curious what the actual numbers are and how that would compare to if they released it in theaters. The first Trolls opening weekend was 46.5 million to go on to rake in a total of 153.4 million domestic. The article is very vague but says it did 10x the amount of business that Jurassic World did which was 2-3 million day one. So making huge assumptions that it would be evenly spread through the weekend and that's a guesstimate of about $60 million for the weekend? Not bad but I bet with a digital release like this it will be even more front loaded than a typical theatrical release. Since people are stuck indoors with nothing to hold them back if they are going to rent it I'd imagine they'd go ahead and rent it the first weekend. So an interesting experiment to say the least.

We did rent it this weekend. It was pretty enjoyable. My 8 yo daughter loved the first one and this one as well so it was a no brainer for us.

They were basically getting 0 hours anyway, weren't they? They are probably better off at this point being unemployed (unless hourly workers who don't have any hours logged still got health benefits, which then really sucks)

We simply don't know. For all we know, the footage needed to cut trailers are all locked up in the studio where no one has access to right now.

and as dex14 said, it's almost pointless to cut trailers right now because the studios aren't going to spend money for it when the release dates are still in flux.
