Damn. We turned it off seconds before that. Can’t trust any movie these days to tell the story before the credits.

Man I loved this movie. Would love a follow on. Seems so many movies and TV shows are forgetting to be actually FUN. This was.

One little detail I liked is that
Spoiler:
he had lived this day so many times that he essentially forgot anything about himself

Would not need to really use the time loop device as
Spoiler:
it seems like they could play of the fact that there seems to be 3 different timelines created now. Maybe that creates an instability that needs to be fixed or something.

I also found her mad attractive.

I loved this one. I’ll watch it a few times.

If it were in theaters it’d definitely be a sleeper hit.

Well I ended up watching it anyway, and it's actually really good. I'm glad it wasn't a comedy which I had expected.

Enjoyed this quite a bit. IMO, it could have been better if the whole movie was about Samberg/Simmons and their back and forth trying to kill each other.

Oh, I forgot, the cool thing was I was pretty stoned while watching this, and after it was over, it took about 10 minutes for my brain to start processing time correctly again

This. I was thinking the exact same thing when he was explaining it. Simply a non-challant, "It's just like the movie Groundhog Day" and then she gets it.

Re: Palm Springs (2020, s: Samberg, Milioti, Simmons)

Questions!
Spoiler:
at one point they show the couple in bed falling asleep together. If person A feel asleep before person B, would person A immediately start their next version of "today"? If so, what happens to person B's perception of person A? Did they disappear? Are they still there, but sleeping? If they are still there, could they have been woken up, and sucked back into the person B's version of today?

When the couple came out finally into tomorrow, would they have been able to find Roy there too? Assuming he eventually was able to use the girls instructions to come out of the time loop, no matter how many days it took, would he still have shown up in the same "tomorrow" as the couple? Or would he be in a different tomorrow? It almost seems like there should be a different tomorrow for each today that was spent in the time loop.

Another hypothetical! The guy said he stayed awake for a couple days on meth before. If he did that after the girl entered the time loop, when he woke up, would the girl have gone through 7 "todays" before the guy showed up again? Or would the guy show up the very next day for the girl? SO many questions!!

They purposefully kept it clear of that stuff to keep it briskly paced but
Spoiler:
I was thinking once you fell asleep or died your consciousness rebooted, and those stuck in the loop restarted the same days again and again at the exact same time - the real bummer in all that is no satisfying sleep (unless you woke up automatically refreshed). Roy should be able to recognize them the next day (since hypothetically, there's no timeline in which he didn't eventually escape.), and when somebody went to sleep I assumed it was like they died to the other people, that or the default timeline version of themselves took over.

I'm convinced June Squibb lures people to the cave to see what kind of wedding speeches they'll give.

Watched this today and it was awesome. It's definitely a science fiction comedy.

I've already watched this movie more times than I'm willing to admit.

I fear we're about to reach the point where people watch it because they keep hearing about it and they're going to be on the disappointed side of the wave.

The question that hurts my brain is
Spoiler:
We see them happily together in the pool on Nov 10, so they obviously remember everything that happened to them previously. However, when Roy gets her message and seeks him out at the wedding, he doesn't recognize Roy at all. That makes sense because it would have been the first time they met each other, but it doesn't make sense that at the same time the couple are together the next day. Are there now two timelines? One with the couple together and Roy still in the loop, and another with the couple not together but Roy has also escaped the loop?

Well here is my thoughts:
Spoiler:
At the end of the show there are most likely at least 3 timelines:

1. Nyles and Sarah's timeline past the loop
2. Roys timeline past the loop where Nyles and Sarah would not recognize Roy
3. Kind of a sad one, but once Nyles and Sarah escaped the loop it created a new timeline with only Roy still in the loop, and Nyles not in the loop yet. But it is likely that other than the brief encounter with Roy, Niles day went the same as his very first one, which means that Nyles probably goes to the cave and is stuck in the loop in a different timeline all over again
4. It is also possible that the meeting with Roy somehow prevents him from going to the cave which would mean a timeline where no one was ever in a loop.

In terms of the Sarah falling asleep ahead of Nyles question I think she would not disappear in Nyles timeline and could even wake up, but she would only remember in the next day up to the point she fell asleep

A really cool mechanism for a sequel could be all these timelines sort of merging. Could create a lot of cool plots

Outside of knowing this was a time-loop film (a genre I can't get enough of), I went in blind and loved it. Already watched it twice. It was fun catching things I missed the first time, like some of the comments Samberg said at the start of the film.

Saw this and absolutely loved it. Miloti is just yummy.
I liked the montage of the different ways Roy killed Niles.

Once while they're tripping on shrooms, and it's also the closing shot of the movie.

Depending on your TV/Screen, it may have been hard to see them the first time since it was a night shot.

Double checked and now their dance music is stuck in my head.

Re: Palm Springs (2020, s: Samberg, Milioti, Simmons)

A fun explanation of that moment here :
Spoiler:

PALM SPRINGS: DINOSAURS EXPLAINED

Sure, adding dinosaurs into the mix makes for some good comedy and imagery, but there’s actually another way their addition to the scene can be read.

This was highlighted by writer Andy Siara in an interview with Decider:

“I could say that you have two characters who don’t believe they are capable of love, and in that moment, maybe they fall in love. Dinosaurs don’t exist, but in that moment, they exist. It’s two things that are impossible.”

It’s a lovely way of interpreting the sequence, although he does also offer an alternative explanation: “Or, I can also just say that I love Jurassic Park and I wanted to put that in there. It felt right in that moment. How do we make this scene stand out more–what better way than to add dinosaurs?”

Both are valid, but we certainly prefer the first reason!

I watched this last night and really enjoyed it. A high quality Hulu "original"? Whodathunk?

During the montage when Sarah is discovering how to get back to normal, they used an instrumental deep cut from Genesis' Invisible Touch. I devoured that cassette as a kid, but hadn't heard that particular song in ages. Man, that took me back.

Same. It's such an obvious reference, it would've been nice to have a little riff on it. But I guess it's like how zombie movies don't exist within the realm of most zombie movies.

Don’t get too carried away. Ha. This was 100% ready for a theatrical release before Covid. I think it would have been a solid hit at like $150M or something. But we will never know.

Now that theaters are opening back up, I wonder if they are considering releasing it, since Hulu does not have the subscribers that Netflix has.

Do they still create physical prints for individual theaters? I guess they wouldn't want to spend money on that.

Haha. No. Most of them are downloaded now. No shipping. Just a file.

My guess is Hulu has it and that ship has sailed.
