Well, at least we can all agree that she likely had better tits than Jesus. But you never know...

Re: RIP Tanya Roberts Dead at age 65 [UPDATE: Dead for the second time]

She was truly one red hot babe.

But came to post my dismay at the laziness on display by the media. I saw so many reports, especially with her death and rebirth and death, using the headline that she was "best known as a Bond Girl and from That 70s Show."

Okay, first, she was one of Charlie's Angels, so if you're going to go with a TV credit, c'mon.

Second, for fucks sake, she was Sheena. She was an actress and she was the star of "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle." Say what you want about the movie, if she is famous enough for her death to be noticed, then remember when she was the star.

I would argue that for those of us of a certain age the Beastmaster was the thing we most remember. There was a period in the late 80s and early 90s where the Beastmaster was ubiquitous on basic cable.

Yep, same for me. The Beastmaster is the first thing I think of when I hear her name.

Decker is a doctor. He could probably confirm this as being something that could kill you.
My mom died of it. She was 91 though. It's common among people in nursing homes. People get too old for their immune system to fight it off.

Yeah, Sheena and Beastmaster are what most of us 80s kids and movie nerds know her from but the average joe would recognize “Bond Girl” and That 70s Show was only a few years ago. As annoying as it is seeing news sites list that, it’s not surprising.

Well, landing the Stacey Sutton part was probably the height of her career. There really isn't anything of note after a View to a Kill in the '80s and within five years she was doing erotic films that one would find late night on Cinemax.

If it weren't for the context clue in your second sentence, I don't know who Stacey Sutton is, so it can't be that great a credit.

It's her most financially successful movie by a gigantic margin, and she's third billed behind Moore and Walken. It was a big get (supposedly from Cubby Broccoli liking her in Beastmaster) that just didn't do anything for her career.

You're not going to convince me that if you are reporting on an actor's death, identifying the ONE major motion picture release where they were the lead and title character is not a better reference than being one of fifty+ Bond girls.

And the point of my original post was the laziness of the people reporting the news. That they all just copied the same headline. More galling than the Bond girl thing is referencing her recurring role on That 70s Show instead of Charlie's Angels where she was one of the series leads.

It's her most financially successful movie
And let me just add on that I hate that kind of thing and, frankly, it is stupid. It is a James Bond movie. Her presence has absolutely nothing to do with its financial success or even its existence. Independence Day is not a Jeff Goldblum movie that made a billion dollars. The Phantom Menace is not a Sam Jackson movie.

Maybe, but it was the one movie of hers that a lot of people actually saw in the theater, and she is the lead Bond Girl in that film. Jeff Goldblum and Sam Jackson have had a lot of successful movies that people saw. Tanya Roberts...not so much. Sheena was not then or now a successful film. Whatever fame it has now is of the cult film variety. As for the Charlie's Angels/That 70s Show....she's a blip in the history of Charlie's Angels (the second Kate Jackson replacement). That 70's Show is something that brought her to the attention of a whole new generation of audience that were too young for her early 80s successes so it's a reference point for those people. That's probably why it got mentioned.

OK, med school lesion time :

Sure it can kill you, though normally it doesn’t of course. Usually a UTI stays in the bladder and urethra, which is called a lower Urinary Tract Infection or a cystitis (bladder infection). Those are very common, especially among sexually active women, can hurt and cause blood in the urine, but rarely are dangerous. Our urinary collecting system is designed to be pretty much a one way flow — kidneys to ureters to bladder to urethra then out. The danger is in systems where there is Vesicourethral Reflux (VUR). This allows the infected urine in the bladder to go backwards up into the kidneys. This causes an upper urinary tract infection or Pyleonephritis. This is where it can be dangerous because there is lots of blood flow to the kidneys and can spread bacterial infection through the bloodstream all over the body, which is called sepsis and could be life threatening, especially in the very young or medically compromised. There is a radiographic study called a VCUG that we order on patients who got more sick after a UTI (like if they got high fevers or needed to be admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics). It inserts contrast material into the bladder via a catheter and will show if the contrast stays in the bladder and urethra (normal) or if that contrast material spreads upwards to the kidneys (VUR). We used to have to surgically correct VUR by reimplanting the ureters into the bladder walls, but now we just inject the ureters with a matrix like material called Deflux and it essentially functions as a one way valve to prevent future upper UTIs.

This conversation reminds me of that episode of Community where Pierce dresses up as the Beastmaster for Halloween, but no one knows who he is...because he's dressed up as the Beastmaster.
