Re: The 2021 Oscars Discussion Thread

Am I hallucinating or didn't they already give out the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to the head of the Motion Picture and Television Fund? Now they're giving it out again to Tyler Perry. What's going on here?

I never heard of H.E.R prior to Judas and the Black Messiah, but that’s a really good song and she’s quite talented. I’m glad she won. She reminds me a little of Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill and Erika Badhu. I might have to look into more of her music.

Two muted F-Bombs, is the Oscars telecast now rated R, then?

Glenn Close twerking. Okay this broadcast jumped the shark. And a trivia game segment.

It was pretty funny on an otherwise listless show.

After Yuh-jung Youn's adorable and funny speech, Glenn Close brought some much more needed laughs to this boring show. I thought that was awesome.

Why do I get the impression Glenn Close confused SCHOOL DAZE with DO THE RIGHT THING?

Lots to get through. Strange to see Kelly Preston on the list.

They jammed through the names on that In Memoriam segment. The list was huge, but I did feel like some names were sped through.

Best picture before actor and actress is weird.

I will say Rita Moreno looks really good for someone pushing 90.

Possibly saving the Chadwick Boseman win for last?

Re: The 2021 Oscars Discussion Thread

I don't really have a problem with the winners, but this was the worst Oscars ceremony since at least 1989:

Re: The 2021 Oscars Discussion Thread

That was a weird way to end the show. A winner who wasn’t even there.

Re: The 2021 Oscars Discussion Thread

Like a lot of people I expected the award to go to Chadwick Boseman, which would at least be emotional. But having the winner be someone who isn't there and results in a rushed "The academy accepts on their behalf," is a real anticlimactic conclusion to the show.
