Lanthimos apparently got to make his own vision, with a medium sized budget. This is an indulgent, singular vision, from an exciting filmmaker. I'd file it alongside Kill Bill or Magnolia. I always look forward to his movies.
Also: have these adventurous productions disappeared? I was trying to think of something to compare it to that didn't come out 20+ years ago.
