This is one of those films where there's so much filmmaking craftsmanship coming at you, as a viewer I just sit back and let it wash over me as an overall experience. (if that makes any sense) Similar vibes for me sitting in row 3 watching the Apocalypse Now 40th anniversary release...it's incredible stuff, and I'm probably not picking up on all of the details...but I'm just caught up with the entirety of it.

It was very hot today where I'm at, so I opted to see this again to cool off. But, I went to a $5 budget theater and saw it on a regular screen. So a cheap movie on a humid Sunday, why not? It didn't look great on a regular and smaller screen. I didn't stay the entire time as I had to be somewhere, so I stayed through Oppenheimer meeting Truman. That was already 2+ hours in. Now that I saw it again, it does look like Gary Oldman.

I will say that I paid a lot more attention this time around and the whole set up and score to the bomb sequence was really riveting and tense.

Still standing by my original review from when it opened. Excellent movie. I know most don't care, but a regular screen doesn't do this film justice. The image wasn't that good compared to when I saw it in IMAX weeks ago.

If you have the ability to see this in 70MM IMAX, it's run has been extended through the end of August.

I highly recommend it. If you're in the midwest within a 5 hour drive of Indianapolis, the Indiana State Museum is a fantastic place for it, FWIW.

We went with our oldest to see this and we all really liked it. The whole "It's just three hours of people talking" broad brush reviews are pretty silly, considering the pacing propelled forward by jump cuts and other editing techniques, the score, the quick clip dialogue, etc. It truly felt like a race against the Nazis, the Soviets, etc. for the first two hours before the test, then a slower but still driving pace for the third hour. This was a great film, and I will definitely return to it.

As for "those scenes" and my solution...

We watched The Terminator uncut together a few days before Oppenheimer and had a talk about the talk. It was a good talk. So her first matched my first, at about the same age, too, likely! We talked about what the scenes in Oppenheimer would be like and overall, then talked after the movie too, and both were good talks. As for those scenes, yep, they're there. But in terms of what all is out there, they are pretty mild and dare I say the "art" of them doesn't make them very sexy at all. She survived. We all survived.

I finally saw this. I was waiting for 70mm IMAX. I thought it was just OK. It seems like there's so much effort to avoid discussion of, y'know, what the bomb actually DOES to humans and the moral quandaries of its use, especially now that we know a Japanese surrender pre-Bomb was a little more complicated.

I think it falls into a lot of biopic traps, including overly winky references to the future (finding black holes, JFK) and the editing to create three different time periods is pretty needless, making the movie feel like an extended montage. The last hour also drags and builds to a "he was always 10 steps ahead!" cliche, rather than giving us actual insight into the man, I feel.

I don't know if the point of the film is that Oppenheimer was ultimately unknowable? I found it frustrating that so much of the man and the depth of the issues seemed glossed over.

If you enjoyed the film, I highly recommend The Bomb. It's a fantastic, deeply researched graphic novel about the origins of the development of the bomb. It doesn't focus on Oppenheimer specifically but it is a great read.

Caught this today. Easy Best Picture nomination and potential front runner. Echo many other views, fast two hours to Trinity and then caught myself looking at my watch until it picked up again.

Just what I was hoping for! AMC finally nailed down their times today, I'll be catching it at least once next week for sure. I've also been catching up on the score the past few weeks, (for whatever reason I forgot to purchase it) alongside other Nolan scores it just stands on it's own as a great album.

Pounding music, flashy cuts, zero character development. I did not care for this at all. And more totally disposable female characters by Nolan.

Amazing movie with an incredible cast. The makeup jobs they did on these quite famous actors was amazing (Downey Jr., Gary Oldman, Krumholtz). Downey Jr. gets Best Supporting. I wouldn’t bet against Murphy for Best Actor either.

It was taut and tense throughout. It was simply magnificent. Saw it in one sitting, one bathroom break.

So intriguing. The twists or surprise of who leaked Oppenheimer’s file at the end, just great. Rami Malek’s testimony against Strauss, equally superb.

I barely knew this history. But, the way Nolan directs this and creates this is truly a feat. He crafts such ingenious movies that always captivates. With heart, soul, conflict, all the while being entertaining as hell.

Yet another stunning achievement in cinema.

Can’t wait to dig into extras.

I finally got around to seeing this this weekend. I thought it was fantastic. It was long but I was never bored, even when I thought it was winding down only to realize there was still another 45 minutes or so of the movie left.

There were so many name actors in this! There seemed to be another famous actor popping up in every scene. Every performance was spot on! Though from the marketing, I though Florence Pugh would have a bigger role than she did.

That final scene was pretty damn haunting.

Wow, can't believe I loved this. While I'm hearing complaints about the typical sound issues in Nolan films (I'm one of those complainers as well) - I had zero issues with it in this film. I had the subtitles ready to go as there are usually dialogue issues in his films as well, but not this time.

I also completely disagree this time out with the female characters being disposable - I thought they GREATLY added to the films overall impact. Pugh played nicely off of Murphy, and she showed Oppenheimer's more complex, personal side - meaning how tenacious and blind he is and most importantly, how easily he is to take advantage of - this in turn also shows how little Oppenheimer cares about others when he does the same with Blunt's character - I really thought this brought out the characters personality more. Blunt was a tough, take not shit character who was also just as selfish. Both Pugh and Blunt were awesome in this.

Not only was this Murphy's best film, it was also Robert Downey Jr.'s and Matt Damon's best roles as well. minor gripe: I know Damon is in his 50's, but he still looks too young to play the role he was in, but he did an exceptional job.

I also disagree this film has no re-watchability - I will definitely be watching this one again.

What a great film and this puts Nolan at the top of the list.

I actually watched this a second time, and I spent a lot of time learning about this history as well.

One of the main things I give Nolan credit for was how he didn't pander with the politics in the film. Politics were MUCH different back then, nothing like the fantasy pansy shit we have nowadays (that's actually even more dangerous in many ways). Back then, just like the movie showed, political lines were often blurred, and Nolan did a great job of showing that.

Strauss was such a jealous bastard, but in the end, even though he got his way against Oppenheimer, it came back to bite to him. That's the price you pay. I also didn't know Oppenheimer's name was cleared in 2022 either.

My second view of this film showed me that it's not just a great story, but a very entertaining movie to watch as well - it's just really well made.

Damon steals the show for me as well - he did such a great job.

Damon really turns on the charisma in this role. I think it would have been a very different, more dour movie without him.
