Listing all the movies I'm seeing for the first time this year.

01/01: Jagged Edge (1985) D: Richard Marquand

As much as I enjoyed the 80s pace of the film, and the plethora of great actors in all the supporting roles (Lance Henriksen, James Karen, Michael Dorn...) nearly every key moment is clumsy or laughable.
01/07 Nighthawks (1981) D: Bruce Malmuth

Goofy buddy cop movie between Sylvester Stallone and Billy Dee Williams, but is worth watching for all the time capsule images of New York in 1980, as well as Rutger Hauer knocking it out of the park in his first American film.
01/08 Spoorloos (The Vanishing) (1988) D: George Sluizer

Fascinating psychological thriller, leading to a horrifying ending. An exceptionally well-made film, with a lot of unexpected humor. First great movie I've seen this year.

The only reason to watch this is to compare it to the original version. Seeing how the two movies differ provided me with chuckles and interesting observations throughout. Would highly recommend as an academic exercise.
