Revenge was great, and Sonic Boom was very good. Sonic Boom has some great songs on it.
Hell, Monster has a handful of really good songs, too (Hell or Hallelujah, Wall of Sound, Shout Mercy, The Devil Is Me). (But more than it's share of crap as well, which makes that a disappointment if it's their final album...)

Oh yeah. Revenge rocked. The problem was they were losing young people to grunge, and their concerts were poorly attended. They could have continued in this vein and played small venues, or perhaps as part of a large festival type tour. But their star was fading, with only one way to salvage their glory. So they put on the makeup and became the world's biggest nostalgia act. And for a while, it was all kinds of awesome. But people got tired of that as well.
I'd love to see one more big summer shed (or even better, indoor large arena) tour where they put on a full fledged extravaganza, but I doubt it happens.

I agree. Kiss Unplugged happened then the reunion tour. I was still too young, though. My first concert ever was seeing them at Dodger Stadium Halloween night during the Psycho Circus tour. Smashing Pumpkins opened up for them. It was great. The last time I saw them live was like in 2004 during the Rock the Nation tour - Poison opened up for them. It was another great show, but have not seen them since due to the expensive tickets. Although I did see Paul live during his Live To Win solo tour.

Kiss fan since 1978, and I haven't been back to a live show since 2009-10'ish. Last time I saw them, I was so bored. The same setlists, the same stage banter ("People in the back, lemme hear ya!" "Gimme a spotlight, motherfucker!!"), greatest fucking hits live. I left early and never looked back.
If you want to see them play deep cuts and never-before-played-live tunes, you have to go on the "Kiss Kruise" and like hell I'm spending money on that level of monstrosity. Do YOU wanna be stuck at sea with several thousand obsessive KISS fans? Yeah I don't think so...
Because my wife is the world's biggest Def Leppard fan (yeah yeah, I know), we went on the one (and so far, only and probably last) Def Leppard cruise ("Hysteria on the High Seas"). That thing was an epic disaster, it hardly abides the telling... except that it does!

You should have went to see Def Leppard open for Kiss a few years ago. That was a great concert!! I will also state the crowd seemed to be into Def Leppard more than Kiss that night.

Tomorrow's rumored to be a big day for us Leppard fans... talk of the Hysteria tour announcement and the pre-2011 catalog finally hitting digital & streaming services

I remember how disappointed I was in the setlist for the Hysteria tour back in 1988 when I saw them. They had 4 albums, and they played nothing off the first album (Wasted would have been a easy token song to add), and only one song from the second (Bringin on the Heartbreak obviously), but plenty of deep cuts from Pyromania and Hysteria.

I saw Def Leppard in December 1987, Hysteria tour, and yeah it was pretty much Pyro/Hyst heavy but with Heartbreak, Another Hit and Run and Let It Go thrown in. High n Dry is my favorite DL album (followed by Pyromania and Hysteria, although the latter is not quite up there with the first two). I loved hearing Gods of War and Die Hard The Hunter though.
I haven't seen Ded Flatbird but the wife (who has seen them 40+ times and counting, including VIP experience in Vegas that I don't want to tell you how much that cost) would rather see those setlists at this point!

I've heard they're touring with Journey next summer (dates are supposedly put aside for Fenway Park in Boston).

I'm both a Kiss and Def Leppard fan, but I doubt I would spend the time and money to go either of them live anymore. Partially because both are really just nostalgia acts at this point. Both have put out studio albums during the last decade. But they were no where near their best, and for good reason, they barely nod to them while on tour.
But back in the day I totally wore out my High n' Dry, Pyromania, Creatures Of The Night, Smashes, Trashes, & Hits and Revenge cassettes. And I saw both bands during that era, including Def at the Gorge which was just an amazing show.

DL has actually put out some really good music (some not so good) long past their heyday (post Adrenalize). My wife got me into the "Slang" album which, while sure it ain't High n Dry by a longshot, has some great material on it.

Hokeyboy, I have always been curious about these cruise concert packages. If you do not mind sharing some details/stories from your DL cruise that would be awesome, and I bet others in this thread would get a kick out of hearing what you have to say. That being said, I am not asking you to rush and put something up to immediately please me, do take your time posting only when convenient for you...this weekend, sometime next week, whenever you feel like it works for me.
I will say that when I hear the DJs of the Sirius XM Octane Chanel try to pass off seeing a rock band member puking into the potted plants on the side of their stage because they are three sheets to the wind as something "awesome" or "memorable" you get to experience on these cruises is not a selling point that encourages me to save up for this type of cruise.
Relaying this experience they encountered on the cruise makes for a story that as a listener of the station makes me chuckle and say oh boy out loud in the car, but if an average joe like me paid good money just to see someone's music I enjoy get played in fits and starts as they hurl chunks...yuck. I would be embarrassed for the musician and angry at how I wasted hard earned money to be "entertained" by watching rock musicians stumble around high/drunk with the occasional puke into the plants.
Was your DL cruise all too often punctuated by a similar experience like the above?

The last time I saw Kiss live was for their acoustic show at the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino. Like 3 years ago or so? No-make-up and they played most of the songs from the Unplugged show (and a bunch of other ones never played acoustically before) minus the stuff from Revenge and it was a killer. I was not expecting to go but one of my sisters bought me the ticket, so I could not refuse it. We had good seats and it was terrific. Gene debuted his new line of Punisher acoustic basses and they were dope. Yes, he also actually played them, as well. Hell, I may have posted about that in this thread several pages back. I don't remember. Funny enough Gene's bass tech was an old ex-GF of mines stepbrother.

That soul album has been in the works since forever. They were gonna tour but the pandemic scrapped the plans. I think the tour was going to start in Japan, out of all places.

Sounds like a good opportunity to see Paul up close in a small venue at least. I was surprised when Steve Harris played a small club nearby with his side band British Lion and hung out with fans after the show.
