Here's an original song, "I, Oh I". Eric Singer is his drummer, btw. CD & vinyl coming March 19.

That song and video are the ultimate cheese. But it really does capture a kind of mid-60/to early 70's Chi-Lites/Isley Brothers vibe even though the lyrics are even weaker than Paul's voice. The song actually reminds me a lot of the Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart Of Mine" mixed with "Sooner Or Later" by The Grass Roots.
I saw that James Taylor just put out a new album of really old songs (ones that were before Rock And Roll came around) and of course countless other musicians have done the same thing. Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, etc. I know that the inspiration well has run dry by their age but I would rather hear them perform crappy original stuff than crappy cover versions of old songs.
I had KISS in my rotation on my mountain biking ride this weekend and "Monster" was the album. Goddamn it is awful. I know the guys are old but when they stopped singing about pussy, everything just got gradually worse ("All Hell's Breaking Loose" is the exception...but even it is crazy cheesy).

I like it. Can't say I'd buy it but I do like it.

There's a 40th anniversary Creatures of the Night set coming out in November:
I'd get it but that price is horseshit -- I have the previously released vinyl. Creatures in Dolby Atmos should be unreal, though.
Speaking of which, they're re-releasing a 40th anniversary standalone vinyl IN "Half-Speed?"

Looks awesome. This is how you do a super deluxe boxset.
I have the Destroyer one and it is fantastic. No regrets.
I just wish they would do this for every album.

Looks great but a bit too rich for my blood. I'll probably pick up the half-speed mastered vinyl though (I currently only have the mid 80's vinyl with the revised non-makeup cover).

I skipped the Destroyer box and reissue vinyl, but I did pick up the CD version and Amazon gave me the contents of the full deluxe version via Autorip. Kind of hoping they will do the same with this, since I am only interested picking up the new half speed vinyl.

Don't want all the extra crap liker posters, postcards, guitar picks, whatever, would prefer a CD release with all the audio.

Just finished spinning the new Creatures vinyl (the vinyl, I didn't get the extravagant set) and this was pretty fucking awesome. Sounded great and it did not have pops or hiss. I have the previously released vinyl and that one sounds great but is much nosier than this one all things considered.

Good to know that it's a quality pressing, I need to get this (like you, only the vinyl itself, not the crazy box set). I can probably sell my 1985 (revised non-makeup cover) vinyl pressing to more than pay for this.

With Black Friday I was able to get the Super Deluxe mega whatever edition for $200... and I bit the bullet. It is my favorite Kiss studio album if you don't count the Ace solo LP from '78, and I really want to get those outtakes. Still a massive ripoff at the reduced price point, but at a third less.

Listened to the extra tracks on youtube, from the Creatures set.
Now I'm glad I didn't buy that big set. Just about all the previously unreleased extra tracks sounded like garbage, especially the live tracks.
The only extra track which kept my attention, sounds like a rough mix of "I'm a Legend Tonight" without the lead vocals. (IIRC, the original version was on the KISS Killers comp album).

"I'm a Legend Tonight" has always been my favorite of the new tracks on Killers (I bought a European cassette import back when it came out).

I've always wanted them to reissue "Creatures of the Night" with Vinnie Vincent on the cover.
I know that Vinnie didn't play on the album, but neither did Ace. And Ace was already on his way out of the band by then, anyway, and this is the only place where Vinnie in the "Guitar Wizard" makeup would go on an album.

I have read around the net about the volume being really low on the surround mixes and way too jacked up on the stereo, anyone care to comment that has heard it?

There are rumors that Peter Criss sold the catman rights back to gene/paul sometime in the late 1980s, while Ace Frehley purportedly still owns a part of the spaceman rights where gene/paul pay a licensing fee.

I believe Ace fully sold his Spaceman trademarks to KISS somewhere around the same time.
Also, while in hindsight maybe it wasn't the best decision, KISS in 1987 was essentially running on fumes. Still profitable to a point -- their albums sold reasonably well (gold/platinum) and they had money-making tours, but the make-up laden mega-superstar era had disappeared long ago.
No one knew the 90s would turn everything around... for a time.

If peter and ace completely sold all their kiss shareholder interests back to paul/gene, then one wonders if the former were having cash problems and/or had too many drug and alcohol problems.

Re: The Official "I'm finally embarrassed to be a KISS fan" thread.
KISS has really bottomed out in the early 1980s. The solo albums weren't well-received, the disco direction of "Dynasty" turned a lot of people off, and "Unmasked" and "The Elder" were duds.
Though KISS were able to ditch their make-up and become another generic glam metal band in the mid-80s, it really felt like their best days were behind them and the days of churning out merchandise like they did in their heyday were long gone.
So if you're Ace and Peter, do you keep your share of a diminishing company, or do you just accept a cash payment and get what you can now?
When they're releasing bland stuff like "Crazy Nights" and "Hot in the Shade," nobody really saw them putting the make-up back on and redefining themselves as a nostalgia act and turning the merchandise machine back on ten years later. It's really catching lightning in a bottle twice.
