When REM released "Out of Time", I learned not to trust an album by band alone. Honestly, there is not a single band or artist that I will buy without a good sample of it first.

Chris Isaak is not my favorite artists, but he has not put out a bad album yet. U2 has broken my trust a couple of times.

Most of the bands that I like don't get a third album, so they never get the chance to fail.

Just Toad The Wet Sprocket for me. Unfortunately the band dis-banded over a year ago so no more albums... I know the members have gone 'solo' so to speak, but it's just not the same thing. Oh well.

I agree. Toad was one of the best bands ever.

Apart from them I'd buy anything by

Rush
Kiss
Pearl Jam
Stone Temple Pilots
Counting Crows
Alice in Chains (dis-banded as well, sadly)
Soundgarden (also dis-banded...)

and a few others...
