Frankly, I'd rather see the Sigur Roses and the Radioheads. Oh, and the Pulps and the Big Stars too.

It's Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah. That's the band's name.

They're in Columbus on 9/20. Maybe I'll check 'em out. BDB generally has pretty good taste...

Except the fact that's he named after an artist whose output has increasingly become worse and worse and whose debut now looks like a fluke. But I guess he still has good taste.

Are they any good? What do they sound like? This smells suspiciously of Yet Another Band That Pitchfork Loves Because They Represent Some Kind Of New York Post-Graduate Slacker, Ringer T-shirt Hipster Trend (YABTPLBTRSKONYPGSRTHT).

Goddamn, what a buzzkill.

You know that Cure song, "In Between Days", where they try to sound like New Order? That's what they sound like, at least to me (based on the one song I've heard.)

Self produced album...probably isn't being played outside of large cities like New York or other places with eclectic indy music scenes.

I purchased the cd a few months ago (from Insound), and for once, I like something 'indy' that Pitchfork lauds. I think its a fairly simplistic, noise layered sound...nothing horridly pretentious and cacophonous as The Fiery Furnaces.

The album is uniformly excellent. Sort of a combination of Modest Mouse and mid period Talking Heads. I actually like them better than Modest Mouse. Pretty much every song is great. Definitely in my top 5 for the year. Getting great reviews:

Highly recomended.

I seen them play in nyc a couple of times and I really like them and I am picky music listener, yeah pitchfork has a hard on for the band, but oh well..I think the band is still good. To me the singer kinda sounds like Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes nature..the music moves between talking heads, lou reedish, other band influences mixture. I expect them to be as big as the Arcade Fire soon.

By the way this band is getting played all over Woxy.com, Cincinatti based internet radio station. They are a hell of a lot bigger than the hipster NY scene.

I saw them the other day in Philly, and they were decent, not worth all the hype.

Listen to the album. Maybe they haven't honed their live act yet.

I was wondering when someone would start a thread about these guys!

The album has been in constant rotation for me for the past few months. Upon first listen, there is an immediate Talking Heads-like sound (I often get a "Is this the Talking Heads?" when people overhear the album).

Speaking of Talking Heads...I saw CYHSY play a free show at NYC's South Street Seaport last week, and I happened to notice David Byrne standing in the crowd during their set, taking it all in...not sure how he felt about the band, though...but they were quite good.

Wow Byrne was there? I was at that show too but certainly didn't notice him. I really dig their album and thought they did a good job live. Did their live set blow me away? Definitely not but had I paid for the show I wouldn't have been let down at all. I think their sound is almost "classic" indie with vocals that remind me of either Bynre or Thom Yorke. All in all I'd recommend them.

I saw them live in Philly. Here are some photos: [1] | [2] | [3]

They were absolutely fantastic. Their CD is really good, too.

Don't worry. They're not The Rapture.

Thread takes off.

and BDB's last couple of albums have been brilliant. the man's a genius and if you haven't seen him live then you can't understand, he is an acquired taste of course.
