Full story: Led by her newly recorded cover of Tom Petty's "Refugee," Melissa Etheridge will on Oct. 4 release the retrospective "Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled." The Island collection will also include the new tracks "I Run for Life," "Christmas in America" and "This Is Not Goodbye," plus a cover of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart."

I'll buy this to support Melissa, but it's another disappointing Greatest Hits effort. She has 2 covers and 3 new songs at the expense of some of her other Greatest Hits which were left off.

And it's clear Melissa considered more than MTV and radio, when deciding what qualified as a Greatest Hit, as some of these songs didn't do that well, but where huge fan favorites.

I don't believe she has one song from "Skin" either and "I Want To Be in Love" was definitely a hit.

"Mama I'm Strange" should be included. "Your Little Secret" should have been a no-brainer for inclusion. There should have been one more song from "Never Enough" and most fans of Melissa consider "Testify" as one of those fan favorites that wasn't a hit on the radio, but a big hit with the fans. There are a couple more of those on "Brave And Crazy" and any one of them would have be fine.

And "Ocasionally" should be on this too.

Some of the ones I've mentioned should have not been left off, but Greatest Hits CDs always have some songs you'd like absent, but when she adds 5 new songs to a 17-18 song Cd and leaves all of those off, that's very disappointing. Either give us 2 discs OR 1 new song, 1 cover, and choose 3 more Greatest Hits. There are 12 "Greatest Hits" on this record and that's not reflective or her career.

Anyone know the specifics on the bonus DVD? It mentions the song "Breathe" but there has to be more to it than 1 song for the $10 + increase in price over the standard cd.

PS-Found this:The Deluxe CD/DVD includes 17 songs from 17 years, with new songs including, “Piece Of My Heart,” “I Run For Life” and “This Is Not Goodbye.” The Deluxe Edition DVD features a recent interview with Melissa, TV performances, exclusive unseen footage, and bonus features. Also included, is a full discography and Web link. This is Melissa's first comprehensive collection.

No mention of any extra song "Breathe" and I don't remember that being on "Lucky".


Still awfully vague. Are the TV performances full songs from Letterman, Leno, Conan and the like or clips or something else? Exclusive unseen footage...um, wow!?!?! And in the description of the bonus features it says "and bonus features."

Would it be so difficult for Melissa's own website to have more detailed info?

She will be on Letterman on Oct. 20th.

Damn, now the CD/DVD of this seems to be coming out on the 18th and the regular Greatest Hits on the 4th.

The Hits cd is kind of disappointing, so I was hoping they'd both be in the store at the same time Tuesday and that the packaging of the CD/DVD combo would be more detailed than the info I've been able to find.

If I wait to pick up the regular CD until the 18th, I am pretty sure the sale price will no longer be available.

Does anyone know any detailed info about what will be on the dvd? The cd/dvd listing does now show "Breathe" as an extra track on the Greatest Hits cd, but it is from her most recent cd Lucky which I own and the quality of the song won't be any better.

The DVD contents alone would be what would make me interested, but I can't find them anywhere.

Both versions are now available at yourmusic.com. Does anyone own the CD/DVD set? I'm wondering if it's worth the extra $6 for the DVD.

Hell yeah - there's quite a heap of stuff on there inc a lengthy interview and various vids and live clips.

Okay, that's all I needed to know. Some bonus DVDs are kinda shitty and I didn't want to waste $6, but if it's a good one, then I'll pick it up. Any chance you could check the total running time on the disc out of curiosity for me?

Sure - the interview is a little over an hour and includes other bits off footage as well as ME with an acoustic disecting the songs in various ways.

There are a total of 12 vids/live clips (one is from the Live...and Alone DVD) bu the other 11 are not doubled up anywhere AFAIK.

There is also a discography and a Trivia game that I have not actuall accessed.

For $6 more it's a good deal! I got mine from CD-wow for about 2 pounds more than the original. Good deal either way.
