And, are you trying to make an MP3 CD or just lower the quality of the songs to make them fit onto 1 disk? To make a song an MP3, click on edit-->preferences-->advanced-->importing, then change the 'import using' to MP3 (it's probably on AAC right now). Click OK, then highlight the song(s) you want to convert to MP3, go to 'advanced' and click on 'convert selection to mp3'

I'm not sure what you mean about the 'pitch,' though. Hope any of that helps.
Thanks, that helped alot. By pitch, sometimes if you pair a song that was released in 2005 and next to it a cd from 1990 and unremastered, the pitch is going to be much lower, but thankfully there is a way on itunes to eliminate that issue, since you can raise the pitch.

I think as a good idea (also so this thread doesn't really "die" as soon as everyone's done and what not) we should type reviews for each cd we recieve, and if possible (if indeed you are sending out CD's and not rar files and what not, give a brief reason as to why you picked the song that you put there, or info on the band if they are more obscure.

Well let's keep it at 20 for anyone (like me) who is mailing. Anyone past 20 can be included if we do electronic distribution. For the record, I prefer doing mail because the entire disc is a surprise and I'm forced to listen to it as opposed to pausing, seeing which tracks etc. Of course, this could be fixed by having someone have the files as "track1" and "track2" etc.

So here's the list:

The-Bus #
Giles
DJ Linus
wendersfan @
Shiv Shanky
auto #
Rypro
Cusm
Tarantino
Cosmic Bus
maxfisher
dick grayson
Dave Wadding
neocheddar02 #
hal9000 #
Vryce
deadlax @
jimdrix
Big Dave
digitalfreaknyc

das monkey @
NORML54601 @
DVD Josh
look4sheep
atlantamoi
cerulean

# = mail group
@ = internet group

Please email me at: [email protected] and let me know if you'd like to be in the mail group or the internet group. If you're in the mail group, send me your name, DVD Talk username, email, and physical mailing address and/or URL where the mix may be.

OK, so here we are. We're going to limit (for sanity) the mail involvement of participants to twenty people. The people in bold have first pick at being part of the "mail" group. Those in the mail group will send & receive physical media, and have the option of being in the internet group. The internet group will send & receive links to albums but will NOT get anything physically mailed to them. Is that fair?

If anyone in the bold group wants to be part of the mail group, let me know, otherwise, the replacements get added on.

To learn from the failure that the Pig Mask of Otter thread* was, I think it would be interesting to have a deadline: have your mix ready by that day, confirm that you can mail it, and I send out the info to everyone.

What would a fair deadline be? Monday, December 4th? Can we all shoot for that? It gives us two weekends and a long weekend in between to finalize everything and makes it likely that we will all get the CDs right before the holidays.

So, in summary:

  • Send me your name, DVD talk username, group preference, and email.
  • By December 4th, confirm with me (or here) that your mix is ready to go and email me your address (to send CDs) and/or URL (to get the files).
  • On December 4th, I will cut out from the list anyone who has disappeared or can't confirm that the mix & CDs are ready. I'll then email everyone in the mail group addresses to send the CDs. Everybody gets each other's URLs so we know when/where to download.

I'll be on again over the weekend to read my email and update this info. Sorry if December 4 is too soon but let's strike while the iron is hot. If everyone is ready before then, we can always do it before.

<hr>

* Basically a pig mask got sent around the world except now it takes a month or so for someome to mail a mask, so it ruined the whole concept.

I'll send URLs. But like a small, old-fashioned minority I eagerly await the smell of a CD and getting to try it out, etc.

Also das, how indeed do you put playlists online? I am using itunes.
Also, as a suggestion for eveyone (especially for those that listen to music at work) try to put a * next to songs that have swearing, so you don't get in trouble, and or have kids at home

Ditto. I have all of my stuff in mp3 192kps format.

I will use put some of my favorites, even if it messes up the "flow" of cd.

I'm on the fence, trying to decide whether to cut my picks down to 1 cd or to just do a 2-disc mix. I'm guessing no one's going to get pissed about getting 2 discs of music instead of 1?

Also, YGM The Bus.

I'm down, if there's still room in the "mail" group. I'm all about snail mail. But I should warn you: I'm all the way up in canadia... igloos, moose, etc. So shipping to me may cost you an extra few cents (equating to a couple hundred canadian dollars).

Let me know if I can play...

Definitely interested in being part of the mail group if possible, though like Something More, I'm located in Canada.

For those that didn't make the first 20, why not start a SECOND group of 20? That way they could still participate!

I'd love to do it but I live in the Czech Republic. I have an idea how to arrange for me to receive them, but it would involve one other person's in the group's cooperation/help!

Edit to add a clarification: I'd like to do this by mail, just because I think doing it online eliminates some of the fun.

You still mean "volume" my friend

Pitch affects the key, not the "loudness". Think of it like a record player. If you play it faster, the pitch rises (ala chipmunks). If you play it slower, the pitch lowers (ala James Earl Jones).

When it gets down to actually doing it, I'm sure there will be plenty of room in the first group. Typically, people drop out in projects like this.

maybe we need to start a separate group, solely for Canadians...

but that takes a bit of the fun out of it, IMO... us Canadians have crappy taste in music.

We'll see what happens with the main group first...

or just make it a 1 disc mp3 disc, if you feel like it. Then again not all cd players can play those kinds of discs (i have 25 tracks currently but i might change some titles, but try to keep it at 25)

The Bus, I'm in, mail group #1., hell I'd love to be in mail group #2 too (what can I say, I'm a whore for music). Contact info on the way.

I was also thinking I'd be making a two disc 'mix tape' because there's just no way in hell I can narrow my favorites down to 1 disc. But then again maybe if 'mixtape project, vol. l' turns out to be a success we can do a 'mixtape project, Vol. ll' and on and on, just a thought (without having to commit if you don't want to obviously).

Also, I hope (at-least for my sake anyway), that everybody involved in the 'mixtape project' will have a verrrry open mind when it comes to the songs/music you'll be receiving, afterall that is the spirit of the project isn't it?

Let the selections begin!

Definately in for the mail version, I think it is more fun that way.

I am having trouble getting started. I don't know if I should do something strictly thematic or a looser collection of favorites (avoiding extremly well know songs).

BUs, did you get my e-mail? I sent one a few days ago about joining the physical mail grouping (along with interest in participating in the downloadable mixes, as well) but my status on your list doesn't seem to have updated. Just want to make sure!

I'm actually doing 2 (about 15 songs each) one has favorites and one is what i call "my musical history" aka the songs that got me started liking a certain type of music.

Great does that mean your CD will have all Bryan Adams, Ann Murray, Gordon Lightfoot and Rush?

I put together one that has mostly my favorites from my favorites. Some I skipped my favorite for my #2 or #3 for accessibility or time constraint. I played with the mixing to get the flow right, but I guess there is a reason no one is paying me tons 'o cash to mix their albums. I am going to listen to this CD a few times to see what I need to add/remove or move around.
