Re: 20 Years of Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam are easily among my top 5 favorite bands of all-time. I was fortunate to have seen them twice in concert. Back in Nov. of '93 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA and July of '06 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. Both shows were simply amazing!

Here are my top 10 PJ songs:

1. Smile
2. Rearviewmirror
3. I Got Id
4. Immortality
5. Last Exit
6. Release
7. Corduroy
8. Black
9. Unthought Known
10. Tremor Christ

Happy Birthday Pearl Jam!

I don't listen to Pearl Jam nearly as much as I once did, but I love that they did that and think that, among the really big bands, they treat their fans the best.

Still, good for them for sticking around this long. I did see them in concert a few years ago, but more because Sonic Youth was opening than from any desire to see them. A lot of the songs sounded the same to my ears.
Agree with this..heck they are #3 of bands from Washington, but that says more to the quality of this state. No disrespect to PJ, because I like them a lot.

Re: 20 Years of Pearl Jam

I've been wondering what they could possibly release on the soundtrack. Figured they'd have to go the demo/alternate version route otherwise it'd just be another best of collection.

I really wish I could make it to the Alpine Valley 20th Anniversary show. I really doubt it'll happen at this point though.

Pearl Jam Unveils Elaborate Soundtrack Scavenger Hunt

Announcing a tracklist usually involves slapping the songs on the band's website, sending out a press release or two, and calling it a day. But Pearl Jam has opted for an elaborate real-world and online scavenger hunt to reveal the Cameron Crowe-curated, rarity-studded list of 29 songs on the Columbia Records soundtrack to Crowe's upcoming PJ doc, "Pearl Jam Twenty." Starting at 10:30 this morning and released every half-hour, clues to places both physical (the Jumbotron in New York's Times Square), virtual (hidden on Facebook and PBS.org), and somewhere in between (by calling a Seattle phone number, announced on Pearl Jam's Sirius radio station) have been posted at PJ20.com and augmented by @PearlJam and fan tweets using #PJ20.

Re: 20 Years of Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam's 'Jimmy Fallon' Debut Will Be Twice as Nice

"Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" has a double Pearl Jam treat in store in early September. As part of its ongoing twentieth anniversary celebration, the Seattle band will be the musical guest on the NBC show on both Sept. 8 and Sept. 9. In addition, Cameron Crowe -- who directed the "Pearl Jam Twenty" documentary due next month -- will also be on the show on Sept. 8.

Pearl Jam and Crowe's upcoming appearance on "Late Night," tweeted by Fallon himself today, follows on the heels of the group's "Pearl Jam Twenty" festival Sept. 3-4 in Wisconsin and the kick-off of its Canadian tour Sept. 7 in Montreal. After "Fallon," the band and the director are reportedly headed north for the premiere of the "Pearl Jam Twenty" documentary on Sept. 10 at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The pair of September appearances marks the first time Pearl Jam has appeared on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," however guitarist Mike McCready has previously sat in with house band The Roots, guitarist Stone Gossard has previously performed on the show with his other band Brad, and McCready and bassist Jeff Ament have performed with their side project Tres Mts.

That's a smart move. I remember when Pearl Jam was Conan O'Brien's first musical guest on his first episode hosting The Tonight Show. Both of these appearances are solid and I'm looking forward to them on Fallon.

Pearl Jam sounded like shit on the Tonight Show (a whole two years ago) imo, and I've like them for a long time. Though most tv shows mix bands to sound horrible, especially SNL.

Re: 20 Years of Pearl Jam

So has anybody heard the PJ 20 soundtrack yet?

Most of the rarities seem to be live recordings of stuff we've all heard. Is there something special about these live versions?

Re: 20 Years of Pearl Jam

I've always thought that they're a pretty good band with one of the best rhythm sections around. I have to say, they've never made a truly great album though. Even "Ten" was very good but a bit bland compared to what Nirvana, AiC or Soundgarden were doing at the time. All very different bands, I know, but they were around producing extremely popular music at the same time.

Major props to PJ for their excellent live shows, the way they treat their fans with respect, their humility, their consistancy (they've never really made a truly bad album either) and general "cool-guy-ness". I'd much rather listen to them than countless other bands that have had bigger careers. So yeah, rock on, PJ.
