I find it appalling that anyone can't see how great TV on the Radio are.

They're noise to me.

Three more popular bands/musicians to add to the "What Do People See In This Lame Shit?" list:

-The Police
-Dire Straits
-Fiona Apple

I'd rather be with an animal

What the fuck does that even mean?

And this pretty much sums up Bob Dylan to me
Definitely agree on Bob Dylan. He just says random stuff in his songs and everyone thinks he's great.

It's also kinda like how those "avant-guard" jazz musicians who sound like they are tuning up and just play some random notes, like Ornette Coleman.

Just curious, are you only familiar with the "hits" by The Police?

Reason I ask is that they were HUGE when I was in high school, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting Every Breath You Take or King of Pain or Wrapped Around Your Finger. Couldn't stand 'em. But then I'm not sure where and how, but I was exposed to rocking songs like Next to You and Peanuts, or straight-up ska like Man in a Suitcase. In other words, the deep cuts are far better than the singles. I love a lot of Police songs...just not the popular ones. And I have no use for the Synchronicity album at all.

Plenty of good stuff on Synchronicity, though the hits are obviously quite skewed towards MOR. I have been pretending Norm didn't say anything, as he generally seems to have good judgment and great taste in music.

The Police are one of my all-time favorite bands.

For Norm and Paff

The Police were a scosche before my time. I was only familiar with the hits until this past summer, when I decided I would have a listen to the rest of their output. I found it an utter waste of time. I came to the conclusion that melodious songs like "Every Breath You Take" and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" are completely unrepresentative of the bulk of their music. A night-and-day difference. I know E.B.Y.T was a mammoth hit, and hearing it all the time over the years has made it tiresome to the average person in a certain age group, but I still like it (I have never in my life really listened to the radio, so I have mostly been spared overexposure). Same goes for the other song I mentioned. Other than those, I found almost nothing musically engaging over their five-album career.

Synchronicity was, I thought, the best of their albums. Which is damning with faint praise, because I found the others ranged from bad to downright wretched. I actually would argue that I have a taste in music that is perhaps "controversial", because among the music I like most is from the mid-'80s synth-heavy era that is derided by the music cognoscenti. But hey, we all like what we like and don't like what we don't like, right? There isn't always a rhyme or reason to taste. For me, it simply and solely comes down to, "Does that piece of music please my ears and/or get me excited?" I put much less stock in the lyrical content of a song than in what it sounds like.
The song you posted, Kurtie, is agreeable enough to me, but I wouldn't go wild over it.

Well as long as you listened to EVERYTHING the band put out as opposed to just the overplayed hits, that's all I can ask.

Interesting that you called Every Breath You Take "melodic", when to me it's an unlistenable dirge. Sychronicity (including Miss Gradenko, Kurt) is the still the only album I don't own. If you were gonna try to sell me on a song from that record, you should have gone with Synchronicity I. My two favorite records by the band are Outlandous D'Amour and Zenyatta Mondatta. Yeah, I'm not even that big a fan of Regatta de Blanc (although I do at least own a copy of it).

Re: Bands or Musicians That Almost Everyone Seems to Like... But I Don't

I see a lot of rock bands here that I do like (including some of my favourites like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Police, The Beatles), but I'm not surprised. I don't expect everyone to like what I like.

What I am surprised to see is the (almost) complete absence of is that screeching mess of an earbleed, Guns 'n Roses.

2Pac

He is put on the pedestal as this great artist and maybe he had some profound things to say but just never got into his music.
