U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Maybe the biggest Vegas Residency news ever :

U2 to Perform First Concerts at MSG Sphere in Las Vegas

The performances will be the first dates of a multi-show residency by the band at the high-tech arena, which is slated to open in 2023.
UU2 will be the first group to perform at the MSG Sphere at The Venetian in Las Vegas when the $1.8 billion arena opens next year, multiple sources tell Billboard.

The performances will be the first dates of a multi-show residency by the band at the high-tech arena, which is being built by Madison Square Garden Entertainment chairman James Dolan near the Venetian off the Las Vegas Strip.

Officials with MSGE describe the MSG Sphere at The Venetian as the next generation of live entertainment, offering fans a multi-sensory experience of sound and light inside the largest spherical structure ever created. For concerts, the MSG Sphere at The Venetian can hold 20,000 standing spectators or 17,500 seated guests, with 23 VIP suites.
The Sphere will include 160,000 square feet of video viewing space (Sphere officials describe the technology as “interior immersive display”), state-of-the-art spatial audio and an exterior exosphere that changes the building’s look via fully programmable LED technology. It will connect to the Venetian Resort via an approximately 1,000-foot-long pedestrian bridgeU2’s concerts at the venue will be part of a residency that will be spread out over several months and be performed on non-consecutive days. U2 is the second-highest-grossing-touring band of all time behind The Rolling Stones, according to Billboard Boxscore, with $2.22 billion earned and 28.3 million tickets sold.

MSG Entertainment officials declined to comment for this story. Management for U2 did not respond to requests for comment for this story.

In December, Madison Square Garden Entertainment announced it was taking over construction of the state-of-the-art venue, which was first announced in February 2018. The news meant that general contractor AECOM would transition to a supporting role under a new services agreement.

The announcement included news that “significant progress” had been made on construction of the venue, noting that the structure reached its widest point with completion of its sixth-level concrete ring beam, which is 490 feet wide and sits 113 feet above the ground.

MSG Entertainment previously disclosed in its August 2021 earnings report that the opening of MSG Sphere at The Venetian has been pushed from 2021 to sometime in 2023 — a cost-saving measure necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. MSG plans to open the MSG Sphere at The Venetian in time to participate in the FIA Formula One World Championship when it comes to Nevada in November 2023.

A second MSG Sphere is being planned in London and was given a green light by local officials to begin construction in March.

Re: U2 2017 News - The Joshua Tree 30th Tour & Songs Of Experience

Maybe asking too much if they could perform With A Shout (Jerusalem) for that tour.

It has been awhile since they released a new album and Songs of Innocence was the last one in 2017.

That's a cool selection of Honorees. Remember when Trump honored Elvis and Babe Ruth?

He's honestly unrecognizable to me.
If he wasn't standing with the rest of the band, I'd have no idea who he was.

Looking forward to the Las Vegas residency at the MSG Sphere. I will definitely try to score tickets during that run, if at all possible.

U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

I did not know anything about this until that vague Super Bowl spot. So I immediately went to the website. Then learned that Larry Mullen Jr. would not be involved because he's recovering from surgery. I'm not sure how I feel about that. It just doesn't feel the same without him. I love this album. It's a close second after "The Unforgettable Fire". And I would have made a special trip to Vegas to see this. Still thinking it over.

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Yeah, it’s been rumored for a while. And rumored is probably too soft a word. Everyone in Vegas has known this for a while. Nice to see it official, and that they’re doing Achtung, which might be my favorite album as well.
I already registered for Tickets. We shall see. VERY expensive concert year for me already.

This venue is going to be truly spectacular. The best sound system in the world, apparently. Cost as much as Allegiant Stadium did — for a 17,000 seat arena. One not capable of hosting team sports. It will look and sound incredible for this show.

Heart. But I’d wait until Larry is back before I’d part with that one.

Speaking of Larry, it’s such a bummer that he can’t make the show. Rock drumming is so tough on the body over the course of a career. Totally fucked Phil Collins. Messed up Gina Schock from the GoGo’s. Probably lots of them wear down over time.

Drumming never slowed this one down.

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

They are "Re-imagining" their catalog, Taylor Swift style.

U2 Reimagine 40 of Their Songs for New Album Songs of Surrender

U2 have detailed their new album, Songs of Surrender. Out March 17, the LP of 40 reimagined and rerecorded songs follows Bono’s memoir Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, which came out in November. Watch a trailer for the record, featuring a new version of “Beautiful Day,” below. Also hear “Pride (In the Name of Love).”

After teasing the project in early 2022, Bono explained in the book that the album gave him “a chance to live inside those songs again as I wrote this memoir. It also meant I could deal with something that’s been nagging me for some time. The lyrics on a few songs that I’ve always felt were never quite written. They are now. (I think.)” The Washington Post noted last year that the band had stripped down and rerecorded the 40 songs discussed in the book. U2 are also working on a new album called Songs of Ascent, the article noted.

If you are a fan of colored vinyl

The purple splatter edition exclusive at U2.com

I wonder why everybody on the album has a current photo and Bono uses a throwback photo?

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

None of the new version are improvements over the originals. Can't imagine ever wanting to hear these over the originals. Which is weird, because many of their live versions are improvements over their album versions.
Should've been obvious by the re-recording they did of the B-side "The Sweetest Thing" - the original was great, then the re-recording practically ruined it.

Electric Co sounds better live though the studio version is not bad either.
