What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?
I looked it up and there was one of these over 10 years ago, but it got locked for whatever reason. I find the ones in the Other and Movies forums interesting, so I figured there needs to be a new Music one. If one thing certain, almost everyone has an opinion on MUSIC! Let the unpopular Music Opinions...BEGIN!
So, I will get us started with a music opinion of mine that I am sure would rankle a few feathers:
With the exception of the album Ten, any Stone Temple Pilots album (with Scott Weiland) is better than every Pearl Jam album.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?
I respect The Beatles and their accomplishments, but I have absolutely zero interest in listening to their music today. And I don't think their music impresses me as much as the Stones and especially The Who in terms of forward thinking, and definitely not as much as the proto punk garage bands of the era.
Also, no one would know who Ritchie Valens or The Big Bopper were had they not died in that plane crash (however, a lot of innovation and ideas were lost when the Lubbock kid died, but I don't suppose that's a unpopular opinion)

Genesis was as good, albeit different, without Peter Gabriel.
I love both (well all, really) lineups. I didn't even mind Calling All Stations, but I wouldn't put it on par with anything else Genesis did.

I prefer the Use Your Illusion albums to Appetite and feel like the UYI version of the band was as good at what they were going for as the Appetite band was at what they were going for.

I also don't care for the Beatles now in 2024 and I don't find their music timeless as some people think they are. Frankly, I think it's pretty dated. Sure, they are pioneers for the music industry and deserve their place in Rock and Roll history, but for my own personal listening preferences, I just don't care for them now.
On my trip to Japan last October, I went to a Tower records and bought 2 Olivia Rodrigo CDs. (quietly exits this thread from the old men rolling their eyes )

A good cover (especially of a well-known song) is often more interesting to listen to than the original.

The World Needs A Hero is the 2nd-best Megadeth album.
British Steel is overrated.
Ozzmosis is the 2nd-best Ozzy album.
Fleetwood Mac would have been better without Stevie Nicks. Buckingham, McVie, McVie, Fleetwood only.

I guess I'll agree with being underwhelmed by the Beatles. I respect what they did, but I just find it all kind of boring and I preferred a lot of other bands from that time period. I don't love the Beatles, don't like Paul McCartney with or with out Wings, don't like John Lennon's solo songs (though I love the Roxy Music and Lou Reed covers of Jealous Guy--I just hate Lennon's voice so very very much.) It makes me feel like a hater to even say it, lol.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?
I guess my second unpopular opinion is that I absolutely love The Beatles.
Didn't mind Lennon solo.
Love McCartney (with and without Wings).
Also loved Harrison solo, and especially with The Traveling Wilburys.
Ringo solo, I'm impartial to.

I'm totally fine with hip hop artists in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That said, a turntable is not a musical instrument.
The best punk rock album of all time is Green Day's American Idiot.

Hip Hop is already past its prime and devolving before our very eyes. Much like Rock, it has become a stagnant genre filled with less and less talent every year.

Sid Vicious was not the least musically talented member of the Sex Pistols. That distinction belongs to one Johnny Rotten.
The best rock and roll concert film of all time is Urgh! A Music War.
People only like The Cars' Moving in Stereo because it evokes memories of Phoebe Cates emerging from the pool. Similarly, anyone who praises Echo and the Bunnymen's lackluster remake of People are Strange are hardcore Lost Boys fans.

Jane's Addiction was just another LA hair metal band that somehow convinced people they belonged in the alternative scene.

2. American Idiot is a damn fine album, no arguing here.
Artists lay down a lot of tracks, not every one can mean something special to them but someone else hears it and it turns their life around so they remake it but put all their heart and soul into it and make it something really amazing.
A major chunk of my YouTube music listening is covers of all kinds, including mashups of multiple songs with similar beats.
